Oblivion runs poorly on my system and crashes a lot, please help

post #1 of 7
Thread Starter
I've heard the stories of Oblivion not running well on Intel systems, I've seen threads where the only solutions seem to be 1) get 2GB of RAM or 2) get a dual core processor. Well I have both 2GB of RAM (2x1GB DDR2 667 @ DDR2 533 3-3-3-10) and a dual core processor (4GHz Pentium D 930 overclocked with 1066FSB) and Oblivion still gets crap FPS outside, even inside I get quite a bit of lag which is annoying, even when my FPS is very high. For some reason, even when I disable vSync in the Oblivion launcher thing it still caps my FPS at 75, vSync is on "application preference" in my drivers. Also in some instances AA doesnt seem to be on even though its set at 4x in the menu AND even though I tried the LOD tweaks for the textures, they still look crappy from afar so whats the deal here? Is there some new patch or driver I should try?

I'm running the 84.21 WHQL official driver, 7900GTX at stock speeds;
1280x1024x32 @ 75Hz
vSync set to off but seems to still be on
4xAA
There is no AF option in this game and my drivers are at "application preference" so I guess no AF
all details maxed out
HDR off (cant run with AA on a 7900)
Bloom on

I am not about to lower the settings on this game on this kind of machine unless I have exhausted all other options somebody please help me this is really annoying.

Oblivion has a lot of issues with 7900 series cards.
And yeah, you are getting crap FPS. Join the Oblivion Crap FPS High-End System Club.

make sure you set you af and aa 4x. cause 16x aa and af will kill you when you step out side.
