Trouble OCing my 3500+ Venice

post #1 of 111
Thread Starter
Well I finnally got a BT, and now my temps are a bit lower, not as much as I had expected, maybe 3C cooler. Anyways...
I OCED my 3500 to 2.45 ish at like 1.5v is this good?
Can I get results from other ppl who have oced their 3500?
What am I doing wrong?
Could it be an issue with my ram? Or my mobo?

The typhoon needs to be screwed on VERY tight. Even if you think it isnt. Theres been posts on the tt, one by sideburns where bigval i think drew a helpful schematic. Search for that. Make sure you screw it as tight as you can. *Note*- I'm not responsible for you cracking your mobo

did you put too much thermal paste on?
do you need to run a dividor on your RAM?
did you put your htt multi to 4x from 5x?
did you lock your pci/agp/pcie/ata?
have you found the max frequencies for your mobo, cpu and ram individually?
have you run memtest to make sure you ram is stable?

do you need to run a dividor on your RAM?
I am not exactly sure how to do that. Could you help?
did you put your htt multi to 4x from 5x?
I have it at 4x
did you lock your pci/agp/pcie/ata?
Umm...idk, but what would that affect? I don't have any graphics cards or anything like that.
have you found the max frequencies for your mobo, cpu and ram individually?
Aaaah. no How do I do that?
have you run memtest to make sure you ram is stable?
No, I should probably download it eh?

Also, if you used AS5 for the Thermal Paste, it takes several days to break in. That could be a big part of your lack of change.

basically you want a very small amount of AS5.

you need to lock your pci and other ports to the correct speeds. there will be an option in the BIOS

to test the max frequencies first set your cpu multi low to like 5x or 6x and set your ram max frequency (or dividor) also your htt multi to like 3x and raise your htt till your computer won't boot into windows anymore. this will get you your highest mobo max

then set your cpu multi as high as it goes again and do the same, boot to windows and run prime95 for 5 min. as soon as your computer fails within 5 min. lower this is your max cpu frequency.

then lower your cpu multi again and raise your htt running memtest to test your RAM. you can do test 5-6 for here. as soon as your RAM can't pass a few times ten lower the frequency. this is your max RAM frequency.

that's the basics.

OK...well here is how my BIOS is set up...
There is an overclock portion of it, in it there is the following
Cpu voltage, Ram Voltage, Cpu Frequency (starting at 200 going up by 1), Ram Frequency (highest is 200, aka stock, or no divider), then there is Hammer FID controll (what the he** is that?!) which starts at 4x (800mhz), then goes to 5x (1000mhz), then 6x (1200mhz) and so on. What in the world to I do with that!?! Next there is the PCI frequency (starts at 100 goes up by one) then there is the ram timings and what not...and so on.
WHAT DO I DO!?!?!?
I have had this oced nicely to 2.357 ish ghz (or 120 frequency). Now I can roughly get to 2.5ghz, but idt it is stable, and I have tried memtest and it says there is like 100 errors, and that it isn't stable. So NOW what do I do?
ALSO:
This was in bios should I mess with it? What is it?
NB->SB HT Speed=4x
NB<-SB HT speed=4x
K8<-> NB HT width=(down arrow)16 (up arrow) 16
NB<-> SB HT width=(down arrow 8 (down arrow) 8
HT Spread Spectrum=Disabled

AND...should I mess with the ram voltage when OCing?
I think that is it...if there is anyone else out there using the same board as me...PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF PACKING PEANUTS, HELP ME!!!

alright... here is a guide to find your max frequencies... says it better than i did.
http://www.overclock.net/faqs/31782-...pu-memory.html

alright, I'm not sure about some of the stuff in your bios. does your manual say anything?

what model RAM do you have? lets try to figure out what IC's it uses

FINALLY!!! People are starting to know me by name! lol...(pretty sad thing to be proud of on the internet lmao)

Yes, it has to be screwed on REAL tight. Not so tight that you can't tighten it...but use a little wrench and get it on decently. If you have the IHS on, that'll make it much easier on you, cause it'll sit flush...and you won't have to torque it like mad.

But, nonetheless...it needs to be pretty tight as it's so heavy and will "droop"
