Well macs dont do games yet, but u can now dual boot with windowso n them so yes, but woiuldnt recoment, that rig you have would be good, maybe a 820 presler instead, but 3800 x2 should be fine , 3 burners, man thats gonna kick arse haha

I suggest this for hard drives:
SAMSUNG SpinPoint P Series 250GB 3.5" SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive - OEM $85 + $4.99 shipping.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822152025

Get two of them for RAID 0. Four disks in Raid 0 is increasing the chance of failure quite a bit (unless you're thinking Raid 0 + 1)

If you don't like Samsung, then look at these:
Western Digital Caviar SE 250GB 3.5" SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive - OEM $89 + $4.99 shipping.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822144417

Is cheaper than your 4-some. And SATA 3.0GB instead of 1.5GB

Also, do you have a case?

An X2 3800 is cheaper but a Pentium D 900 overclocked will kill the Athlon, even if you could get the 3800 to 3GHz the Pentium D 920 at 4.2GHz would beat it and you can get the 920 to 4.2GHz atleast on air, good luck getting that 3800 X2 anywhere past 2.8 on air. I would get:

Pentium D 920 (after April 23, prices are coming WAY down, almost half in some cases of the Pentium D 900's)
2x1GB DDR2 667 (I prefer OCZ Gold)
Asus P5WD2 or P5WD2-E motherboard
any size hard drive he wants
any PCIe graphics card he wants, not really relevant to video encoding.

That's a good HDD Chozart--but I don't see the risk factor in RAID 0--it's like this IMO--if your HDD crashes you're done--unless you back up data--I look at RAID 0 like one big old HDD--just way faster--if it poops it poops--just do those backups. No need for giant drives unless you are storing everything on the array. 4X80 is still 320 gigs of space...

I have yet to see any benefit to SATA 3.0 yet--maybe later when mobos have less of a bottleneck in the chipset...but then again I have not tried out RAID 0 with 4 drives...that should get into the 200+ MB/Sec burst rates.

Looks like a good build--but as posted above the 4400+ has twice the cache--which is what you want for encoding...

Wait! what about the Opy 165 or 170. They OC like no other and have 1mb of L2 cache, which is very helpful. The 165 is only $30 more than the X2 3800.

i was just going to ask (thanx purdueman).i am loving this opteron 165.its main disadvantage is the low freq(1.8ghz) but it can be o-clocked @2.6 ghz on air,so it equals with fx-60.it has also a larger l2 cache and is cheaper than X2 3800+.it seems strange to me that opty 165 outperforms X2 3800+ in game benchmarks(thanx in fact to 2mb l2 cache).i have always thought that optys were powerful and reliable cpu deigned for rendering, encoding and other heavy tasks, but not for gaming.now im in doubt what to choose
athlon X2 3800+
-higher clock speed 2.0ghz
-smaller cache 2x512kb
-not so oc able thanx to manchester core
or
opteron 165
-lower clock speed 1.8ghz
-larger cache 2x1mb
-very oc able thanx to toledo core

i need your opinions...
