When qwest (& some others) handed over customer info for thousands of people to the bush admin. a few years ago, the ACLU filed suit against them.........there's a reason.
Basically, in the u.s., they would need to have warrants signed by a judge for each individual case to force the companies to hand over anyone's info. Personally, I can't picture a Judge signing off 100's of thousands of warrants wilst still properly considering each case.

France is like that guy you hang out with, that no matter how much crap you give him, he just awkwardly chuckles & takes it. As a result, he's always getting crap.......but he's still a good guy.
