The 4GHz Super Pi 1M Thread

Thread Starter

After seeing the competition on HWBot, I really wanted to do this as I think it will be beneficial.

So, for now, I'd like to unofficially invite you all to benchmark SuperPi as close to 4.0GHz as you can, without going above it.

The point of this exercise is to learn to optimize. Clock all of your other clocks as well. Memory speed is the difference between first place and 10th place for popular processors.

I'll get a spreadsheet in once you guys get to submitting!

Click here for tips (Click to show)
  • Use the task manager to set the affinity for one core. Run Super Pi at least 10 times. Repeat this for every core to find your strongest pi core.
  • Strip an OS and test different OSes. Some swear by XP for SPi, I [used to] swear by W7
  • Close every service and process that is not needed. This will take some experimentation. The big one is explorer. It can be launched again by opening the task manager, going to File>Run>"explorer.exe".
  • Raise your memory speed as high as you can get it while keeping reasonable timings. What are reasonable timings? Well they're the ones that help you score the best! Test as many different combinations as you can.
  • Realize that the most obvious way to get to 4GHz is not always the quickest, performance-wise.
  • More to be added when I come across it!

Standard formatting rules apply. Super Pi Mod 1.5, "Pi Calculation is done!" window showing, main CPU-Z, CPU-Z memory, and any other things you'd like to include. Remember, the more you tell us, the more we can help you or learn from you!

What a submission should look like:

Username - Time - Processor - Processor Speed - Memory Type - Memory speed and Timings - IMC (NB) Speed - OS - Stripped (Yes/No)

For me, it would look like this:

xxbassplayerxx - 10.125 - Intel Xeon W3520 - 3986.9MHz - Super Talent Speed Series DDR3 - 2215MHz 8-8-8 21 1T - 4430.2MHz - Windows 7 - Yes

Both! Not above 4GHz. This is to learn how to tune Pi benches! You gotta beat other scores in ways other than pure frequency!

Well... Here's my first try. Unfortunately, the RIIIE always sets whatever BCLK I choose +.5 so I can't do 200x20. Therefore, I'm getting a bit creative

Biggest part here is the IMC (4.4GHz!) and the memory at 2200 C8.

I would say yes. Although you could do a benchmark in maxxmem with both the speeds.
