Thread Starter

Specs of this build:

Intel Core i7 970 at 3.2 Ghz
Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD9 1366 X58 motherboard
12GB G.Skill Ripjaws 1600Mhz DDR3 RAM
1x SATA Western Digital 500 GB, 1x 1TB Western Digital hard drive, 1x 2TB Western Digital hard drive
1536MB Gigabyte 480 GTX video card
AeroCool V12 80+ 1000 watt power supply
1x 20 LG DVD Burner
1x LG SATA BluRay and HDDVD Combo Drive
Coolermaster HAF X full tower case
Corsair H50 Hydro CPU Cooler
32" LG HDTV at 1920x1080 1080p
Windows 7 Ultimate x64

I would like to get the 980x instead, but I ain't paying $1400 and I got my i7 970 for like $800 online, retail costs like $1200. Any suggestions how to improve my build?

With that kind of budget you should be looking at a hard drive setup with an SSD imo.

honestly, i would have gotten a Rampage III extreme and bought another GTX 480, but thats just me.

and maybe add an SSD just because its already a super nice (and expensive) build anyway

otherwise, looks like a fantastic build man!

EDIT: oh and BTW, OC that 970 to around 4.2-4.4 and it will be complete

There was no point in you getting the UD9, imo. You could have gone with an R3E and called it a day, considering you're not doing 4-way SLI.

take the hot swap bays out and put just the regular optic bay covers where they are, it will look better

to me it looks like one of those rip-off pre-built rigs from many sites that overcharge. extra ram, overkill board, crappy psu, lots of optical drives, HDD space.

no offense, but it just makes me think you've been taking cue's from alienware or ibuypower or something like that
