I got a Geforce 6800 with my Dell XPS. It came with stock clocks of 325/600 which I could take all the way to 400/850 stable on air cooling. Only pulls a measly score of 3449 stock and 5119 overclocked in 3DMark05 with a Pentuim D 830.
Get a 6800 with the gddr3 ram instead. I heard it clocks and performs higher. If you can spare the cash you should go for a 7600GT or a 7900GT.

Well to tell you the truth, at stock it will perform quite poorly but probably better than your dell. That 805 is 2.66GHz 133x20 so there is no hope of you getting it to 200x4=800MHz FSB, if you could get it to about 3GHz you should see some improvement but to tell you the truth it will never be a very avid gamer.

well, i hope it wont be that poor, it may not be the best but at least itll be fun. i mean from a stock to a custom its a leap for a person like me. i had a
P4 in my dell and it worked well. it was a stock straight up dimension 3000. but only with the geforce 5500fx 128mb and a 512mb memory so i hope there is a decent diffrence. my only problem was that im a budget person, so i really had to keep it low in pricing.

in any case i think ill be happy if all goes well. this build will start me off and as i go ill buy better stuff and sell the old to freinds and others. so it will be a slow climb but a fun one.
------and to be brutally honest how does it rank up in lets say a 1 to 10 scale. so i can really see how it stacks up. and if you could do a stock 1 to 10 and an OC scale 1 to 10 that will really help me feal the pain or so to say...

For a intel build, if you got the ATI X1900XTX I would give you:
stock: 4
OC: 6

The parts your going for however would score a little lower IMO. Not sure how good a fx5500 would overclock, but its real old now.
stock: 2
OC: 3

You should look at trading the FX5500 in for a cheap used video card off ebay that has 256mb gddr3 ram and PCI-X.

First off save money and get an X1900XT, it is only 25MHz slower but otherwise THE SAME CARD, you can very easily overclock it by 50-75MHz with the stock cooler so there is no point spending that extra $100 for the XTX, also if you got the X1900XT but paired it with the Pentium D 805 you would be VERY severely bottlenecked by your CPU, it would still get great FPS but no where near that card's potential.

Out of curiosity, how did you go from an FX5500 to an X1900XTX? LMAO!

By the way I think its great that you're coming out of the prebuilt mindset and building your own rig, I'd take my own rig even if it was slower than a Dell just for the fact that I built it and that I can upgrade anything I want whenever I want, trust me you're gonna love having your own rig that you put together.

EDIT/// I think I was being a bit confusing, to recap go ahead and get the X1900XT if you can but know that if you can get a more powerful CPU it will help you a LOT, you have no idea how much of a bottleneck you will have until you see the difference for yourself.

By the way, in your system specs, pent 4 is not an operating system, an operating system (or OS) is something like Windows, I'm assuming you probably have Windows XP correct?

the 5500 OCs pretty good for an old piece of hardware, you see i use rivatuner that allows me to get the core to about 508mhz and the mem to around 408 at the max "i think that was it" as of right now im using the faimly comp so i dont know what the #s are. my comp is, how do you say "out of service"

but the pent D has the dual core so wouldnt that help with the bottleneck, cause i read an article about it saying it would split the proccesing in half so the work load would be taken quicker.

as far as the CPU i will get a much better one sooner or later, i got the D because it was an inprovment but in my budget.

and the from the the 5500 to the X1900XTX, my grandparents are the best and said they would possibly buy it if i pay for half it once i have the money. i say it for a good price on ebay.

XP/ yes
