Hey guys, I feel really bad but my rig isn't folding as it should be. As I had said earlier, I am out of town for the majority of the summer (so crazyap has been helping me out a lot) I am beginning to believe that the OC isn't stable and that is why it is not doing well. Once I get back however I will have much more time (even though I'll be starting college) to help recruit new Slammers and help out in other ways.

Thanks for all your work BWG, crazyap and everyone else!!

Talynn67 is joining Slammer's folding an X6 in native Ubuntu with a 4.0GHz OC and 1600 Cas 6 memory I sold to him. biggrin.gif

I've been working with him for over a month now and he is going to be an excellent folder. This rig will fold 24/7

As close to 24/7 as i can get, may have to stop it a few times to pull some documents off the windows boot occasionally but it's folding now and I'm at work.

Glad to be on the team, Nice to meet all of you and let's take back the top!
A bit about me: i'm a chemist actually for the semiconductor industry so the chemicals we make go into all our folding hardware. It means a lot to be doing some sort of disease and drug research my father is a cancer survivor so it's a way to help give back thumb.gif

How long have you been folding?

Yea i was recommended to OCN looking to overclock my processor by a friend, then after browsing the forums and learning all i can on how to overclock and all about cooling and the mathematics behind it I kept noticing folding in some people's avatars. i already had BOINC so i read up on it, and it happened by chance that i bought a power supply off BWG and it was all down hill from there.

In the fall, my friend and I are working on a water cooled project computer, using some left over/ inexpensive parts. Quite left over i should say, ide CD ROM drive, ddr2 ram, Am2+ socket board, some AMD processor i think it's a 2.8ghz dual core not sure which, and a hard drive from one of my old laptops and his old xbox so at least those are sata but 2.5". So the only valuable parts are the PSU, the xpsc kit, the case when we find one, and maybe the hard drives. I may buy his half out after we learn what we can about how to build a water cooling loop and then set it up to be a more permanent folding rig. Problem is I don't think any of the hardware we have going into it qualifies, so options are I could get an Nvidia Card for it and water cool the card and it can work in the Nvidia category or upgrade the MB and CPU to stay in the cat 3 category I can split the Ram between my current system or get more depending. Or possibly do both seems like that's where most of the Gaps in the folding teams are. It would not be for a while anyway, but I am open to suggestions now or recommendations for needed hardware to fill spots.
I know in the Winter season there will be days where my father will want to stay home and work using solid works from my computer since it's already licensed for the windows 7 OS on it.

Difficult choice. It comes down to comparing the price:performance ratio. If you buy an expensive graphics card (say, GTX580, ~$500) you could run ~20-25k PPD (I think, someone more knowledgeable than I am about GPU PPD should clarify this). Compare that to the price of purchasing a new motherboard and processor ($220 for a 2500k and $125 for a P8Z68 V-LX) which you could run on an extremely good overclock around 60k PPD folding bigadv, more realistically around 40k-50k PPD. I'd say new processor wins biggrin.gif
However, I'm not exactly sure what kind of money you're talking about investing here, in which case the GPU could be a much better contender. Example: a refurb GTX480 could run you about $150, but on a decent OC could get you a similar PPD to the 580, and be much cheaper than buying a new proc and board.
