Wow, cool. I lost another unit for no reason at all.

Linux is really nowhere near worth the amount of trouble it is.

Well, that's nice and all, I have legitimate Windows 7, but that doesn't matter because I can't do the 6903s and 6904s in Windows.

College copies ARE legit.

And you can probably run just the linux clint in a VM in windows, but save the WU data on the windows partition. Justathot.....juuuuuuustathot.

You lose performance because of the Windows overhead. Either way, I have linux on both of these computers, and they've both been incredible pains in the ass.

Then Windows, but strip it out until basically only the client is left.

Where there is a will, there is a way. PPD is king here! Bahahahaa!

But still... the way the clients are written is first Linux, then the easy port to Mac, then the Windows port. Meaning by definition Linux will fold better than Windows, and 99% of the time, a bloated Linux install will fold better than a stripped down Windows one.

True, but the SGT is on about the dropped WU';s he has and the difficulty in setting it up. THAT is what I am getting at and dropped WU's at intervals which cannot be predicted is a PITA. If it were not for the dropped WU's, I would never even suggest Windows. Hell, If I knew a way to get 64-bit support for, say, Windows 2000 and get a client to run in that, then that version of windows runs on almost nothing by today's standards. But that's me dreaming.

When it comes down to it, Folding is really for power users and people who know their way around computer hardware and software, like beople who frequent OCN. Which is a shame since there is a lot of untapped potential out there.

Agreed. Lots of beople on OCN just are not introduced to folding.
I agree about every point there, yes... hopefully the new F@H editors coming in make Linux folding a bit more accessible.
