If that 65ºC is the hottest CPU core, go for more.
If it is the actual CPU temperature, you are only a couple of degrees from the maximum "safe" temperature per Intel.

It lists the Tcase temperature at 67.4ºC

Yea it's the hottest core. I've got it at 4.7 now, with the hottest core hovering around 66C, but I might be able to lower voltage more.

What did you use as your on die TIM? I've heard you can get some major temp drops using Coolabs Liquid Pro...

Some remaining instability might suggest that my GPU is a bit unstable as well.

When I get home next week I think I'll be doing some surgery. I'll see what I get with MX4 and maybe try Liquid Pro later on

Since my old rig was shot to hell and the new one is slow as molasses, I decided to put $1k from student aid to replace my main rig's faulty parts and a good portion goes to !@$$%& MicroSHAFT for new licenses because I do not want to run into this same BS again for a LONG time. For any reason.

I will see if a friend of mine has the time to see if all my old i7 rig needs is a reflow or if the CPU is shot, then decide if it's worth it to turn the old rig into a fileserver if that's all it will do anymore. Slap Linux on the thing and I'm sure she will purr like a kitten to the end of her days in my server rack. It shall be replaced with an ASRock Z77 Extreme 6 and an i7-3770k with 8gb DDR3 1600.

Got the GTX560 up and folding stable again, for some reason it was not happy at anything higher than 800mhz... :/

Should check with the school, students get discounts/free software. I got 2 copies of Win7 from 2 colleges I attended. One of which was like 4 years after I graduated.
Yeah, I got several copies of software from the University for free, but I want to ensure that I am not tied to their licensing anymore, don't know if that is the reason for all the funky nonsense with windows and activation, but better to just get a good, clean, unused and purchased copy this time and then deal with customer service rather than a first year grad at the University who does not know much about the finer (more abrasive) parts of MicroSHAFT licensing, hardware faults or even how to look up a beep code.

It's not his fault; he's just a helpdesk intern who probably got the job thru work-study, but still.

At any rate, classes start in a little over a week and everything must be in order or else I won't have a computer to do my work on. tongue.gif
