I consider a grand for a GPU crazy insane for a piece of hardware. If I'm going to pay that much it better be for a high end extreme intel CPU with a buttload of cores.

But by the time a the Big Pascals drop [in price] they would most likely be beat out by the Volta (or whatever comes out after Pascal)... but in the sense of folding a 980 Ti, or the equivalent in Pascal, would be right around your ally of $700; just a thought.

As for a high end extreme Intel CPU, at the moment you can't beat a Xeon E5-2699 for price ($4k) or for core/thread (18/36) count... it's a wonder if that would even fold properly.

Never know when people drop the big ones to go down to a Ti or so. Whole reason I manage to nab my Titans, when the 780 and 780Ti came out people where off loading their Titans for those. First one I nabbed off a dude who had two and found out he did not need that much power so I did a trade for that one. 2nd one was almost a year later when I nabbed it. Got to give they are old cards but they still can put the power out when I need it.

Biggest factor to me going to be if the big Pascal will have the oomph or not in compute power. If they don't impress me then I will wait out for the Ti version. Whole reason I did not sell my Titans to go to a Titan X, it was just not impressing me at all.

But the difference between a Titan and a Titan X is nearly night and day, the difference between a Titan and a 980 is technically night and day as well. The Pascal, say for instance the GTX 1070 (assuming this is what they will call the equivalent to a 970), supposedly will be 10x that of a Maxwell... if that were priced at $400 odd then I'd opt just for that since software, like in the rest of the computer world, is lagging a bit behind hardware; prime example - the Xeon E5-2699 on a dual CPU board, there isn't such software to use 72 threads.

I might need a Snickers but I dunno, if the PPD from a 980 Ti is the same as a Titan X then the PPD for a 1080 Ti will most likely be similar to a Titan Double X (I dunno giving it random names), only difference is the cost will be roughly $300-400 less. But then again they may change up that whole game during that time... but looking at past GPUs it seems that they've kept a fairly close pattern going and have started a new one with the Ti being a slightly weaker Titan.

But can you afford one, that's a computer build in itself... and that's under a proper water cooling system.

The X just really did not impress me. Now Pascal especially if this die shrink and new architecture is what it all cracked up to be hopefully will be some nice hardware to play with.

Also, I'm stuck on a 1080p 60Hz screen so a lot of that power with a Titan X would be lost for gaming. I think more or less I need to get a high end Intel CPU since I got a bad habit of pushing multi core CPUs to work for long periods of time when I do. I'm surprise that i5 I had at that time survived me, though I would constantly crash programs because I would be asking so much of that little chip.

O there a way to use 72 threads, virtual machines to the MAX! tongue.gif Otherwise, hmmmm, would be some awesome BIONCing on those.

Well of course virtual machines would do that, but there isn't a programme in the world that uses all 72 threads properly since they haven't written them that way [yet]. All I'm saying is, even with Pascal, I think I might wait till the 1080 Ti (assuming that's its name) comes out and then press from there.

In other news this is something you don't see everyday... actually multiple things. thumb.gif

For the price I have other things I need to spend the moolah on right now lol, I'll just stick with a hex/cots core for now since so far my hex is killing it this month, just looks like the 5820's need to bump up their clocks wink.gif also I think I might push my memory up from 2400 and might see if I can get to 4.6/4.7 on this chip like I did with my 4790k (even though it could handle 4.8-4.9 easily - never tried for 5.0 though)

Still my goal is to achieve @TheBlademaster01 numbers on my chips thumb.gif just need to figure out his Digital Jazz

That's out of the blue... been here 7 years come 2 July. I've done one 2 year tour, 1.5 year extension, and currently on my 4 year IPCOT (In-Place Continence Overseas Tour).

Edit: Nevermind, I know why you asked...

Still my goal is to achieve @TheBlademaster01 numbers on my chips thumb.gif just need to figure out his Digital Jazz

I'm sure you'll get to his numbers, you're doing better than most. thumb.gif I'm hoping I can get my clocks similar to yours (not the numbers) on my 8320 since I've ordered my cooling setup to bring the temps down AND I've ordered an external thermostat so I can actually tell what the temp is of the CPU die (@dman811).

It took me a while to drop some of the British spellings and move to the American way of spelling - programme was one of them smile.gif, Aluminium was another.
