Hey i just put together a system, and went in and got a quotation for what its going to cost.. before i go ahead with it, i want to be sure its perfect.

I wanted it capable of playing games such as Age of Empires 3, F.E.A.R, and other new high-end games at maximum performance.. without blowing my budget too much..

Heres what i got;

AMD Athlon 62 X2 Dual Core Processor - 3800+ Socket 939

Asus Mainboard A8N-SLI-UAYZ, NF4, SKT-939, PCIE x 2, Onboard 5.1 Sound, 10/100/1000 LAN

Hynix RAM - 512MB DDR 400 - PC3200 x 8
Hynix RAM - 512MB DDR 400 - PC3200 x 8

XpertVision Graphics Card - 6600GT PCI-E 256MB TV-OUT DVI DD3

Western Digital Hard Drive - 200GB, Serial ATA 2, 8MB Cache, 7200rpm

Thermal Case - 430W Power Supply

before we go any further, what exactly is your budget? I'm sure someone could put tegether a GREAT set-up for close to your budget.

Ill give it a go

CPU:AMD 3700+ $370
MOBO:ASUS A8N SLI $165
GPU:XFX 7900 GT(Possibly buy a new cooler for OCing) $489
HDD:WD 200GB $123
CASE:Thermal Take soprano, 430 watt PSU(replace PSU later) $149
RAM:Corsair 2GB kit, DDR400 $329
DVD BURNER:LG DUAL LAYER $59
DVD ROM:Samsung DVD ROM $32

I think thats it, if i missed anything, sorry, but that system kills the one you suggested
That all comes to $1716 which leave a bit more money for a GPU or CPU cooler

Well If you do not need a monitor to go with the system, then here is about the best I could come up with under $1,300 USD ($1,800 AUD).

CPU: AMD Athlon 64 3700+ San Diego 1GHz HT Socket 939 Processor

Mobo: DFI LP UT nF4 SLI-D

RAM: G.SKILL 1GB (2 x 512MB) 184-Pin DDR SDRAM DDR 400 (PC 3200)

GFX: ASUS EN6800GT/2DT/256MB Geforce 6800GT 256MB

HDD: Maxtor MaxLine III 7V250F0 250GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s

PSU: Sunbeam NUUO 550W

DVD-ROM: LG DVD-ROM

DVD-RW: LG Black IDE 16X DVD±R DVD Burner

Case: Thermaltake Armor Series

CPU Cooler: Thermaltake Big Typhoon

GFX Cooler: ZALMAN VF900 – CU

Thermal Compound: Arctic Silver 5

That comes up to around $1,177 before shipping. Someone else might be able to improve on this build. Hope this points you in the right direction!

EDIT: If possible, shell out a extra $100 or so for the 7900GT, but i was staying under budget.

The Dual core is great if you multitask and have the money ot spare!
BTW, the 7800GT don't need an aftermarket cooler unless you intend to volt mod it! It runs at very safe temps OCed.

The case has 4x fans and the option to add cooling (but i havnt purchased that at the moment) its unbeleivable.

I think i will make use of the Dual Processor..

You think the 7900 GT is really worth it?

[Edit]
I just realized the supplier here doesnt even stock the 7900 GT.
The closest they have is;
Innovision Graphics Card - 7800GTX PCI-E 256MB 2DVI VIVO, DDR3, SLI Capable

$800.. ouch.

Yes, the games are getting more demanding and that will only increase!
I've made a big jump form the 6600GT which actually still does well in BF2 but as othaes had said, the clarity or opfor at long distances does improve with the 7800GT

BTW... got to your "System Specs" via the USER CP link @ top of page and fill it in
