sata recognised as removable causing problems

Hi all

Just replaced HDD and now xp is recognising maxtor sata/300 hdd as removable, which in turn is causing me to experience problems when updating windows - i need help to make this hdd be recognised as non-removable

Any one know how?

This shouldn't be the cause of the update problem. SATA HDDs all show up like this as they have the ability to be hot swappable.

Make sure the BITS service is running and that Automatic Updates service is set to Automatic.

cheers for the reply ste - both items are up and running and still have problem - i have been in touch with microsoft but they havent been able to sort it yet. The reason i came accross this problem being releated to removable drives is a troubleshoot file i found on the microsoft website

Do you get any error messages? Let us know if you do and somebody might be able to help.

yeah microsoft help files on the web are very......err.... helpful??

have you got your BIOS set to have the SATA HDD read as IDE or RAID?
