Official Asus Rampage III Formula Review/Owners Guide - Page 14

Wow alot of people are switching to this board. I just ordered a Crucial C300 128gig sata III SSD . And man I cant wait to have a SSD that will unleash the smack down power of this board and the I 7 chip.

Now if I could just learn how to OC this puppy without a blue screen(LOL)

This SSD will make this build the most expensive I have ever had ( $1900 ) maybe it will last a few years.

I will give an update about the SSD install and how it it compliments this board for me.

Wouldnt you lose trim support then?

I did wonder myself if putting my samsung raid(sata2)on the marvel chipset on my UD7(sata3) would bring better disk benchmarks thinking at least the controller wouldnt be restricting the samsungs at all.

But they were best on the intel chipset.

I thought TRIM will not be supported only if you choose RAID0.

I only have one SSD, so that's why I asked should i plug it in to sata 3GB/s AHCI mode or sata 6GB/s AHCI mode.

No im sure that its the marvell controller that does not support TRIM even on just a single ssd,it does have a similar feature though called Garbage Coleection-GC.

Yeah sure TRIM is not yet supported in raid, but no trim on the marvell controler.

Dont actually know how big an issue it would be to loose trim anyway,i heard it just mainly affects write speeds and not read speeds,i may be wrong.

I see. thanks for the info.

Now, for best performance, I should connect the vertex 2 to port 1 of sata 3GB/s.
but how about the 1TB Hdd spinpoint F3 and the sata optical drive?

I red that people advised to connect the optical drive to the last port (port 6 in r3 formula) of sata 3GB/s to get the best performance or just connect it to another controller?

Please advise. Thanks.

I jusy bought a C300 from newegg. Installed in sata6g single drive. Oh my God it was a 12 hour nightmare ! MB Marvell driver controller. In the end I re-installed win7 6 times because it kept freezing in windows and had to hard boot killing the boot up of OS. Repair, repair repair to no avail.I believe my bios version is 0402

Then I simply switched it over to sata3g and whalllaa it frigging worked then I had to call MS to reactivate the OS. But at least it works. I have list snips of things going on. I still want to figure out my sata6g issues but I am not about to go to that nightmare before I do. Rather live with it the way it is.
My tech level is really a hard knock system builder for years and new to SSD.

I have also plugged my raid 0 HDDs back up and cant find them in windows.
I have everything set to achi except sata6g disabled at moment.

Not all sure about what I did over you but I have mine working great with my C300 on the 6gb Sata. I am actually only running my 6gb satas. I have the C300 in one and my WD 1TB in the other.

I did crash once and had to reinstall but it was my own stupid mistake. I thought oh crap. Well I had my flash drive still in and even though it was a beacon sticking out I reinstalled windows. When I discovered my mistake I went crap again; however, it only cost a few minutes since windows was downloaded in less then 20 minutes and up in running. Another 30 tinkering with drivers and resetting up my folders to go to my 1tb and I was done.

I tried messing with all the bios at first. Ram was not showing up for higher speeds. I got it to run 1066 on 12 gigs for now. I am knee deep in work right now so after the CPU ages some more I may try ocing and upping the ram again. I know I can at least get it up higher just have other things going. Work, back in college, life the little I have between school and work. I am to damn old to go back to college. LOL. Oh well.
