Official Asus Rampage III Formula Review/Owners Guide - Page 23

Thanks for the info! I'm just wondering what would be better for overclocking when using 12GB of ram. From my past experience when overclocking I would go with 3x4 rather than 2x6 to avoid issues with multiple sticks of ram. Does this still apply today? Less sticks, less potential timing issues?
Will I find a 12GB set of ram that will overclock as well as 6GB of ram? I don't build a rig very often so I'm trying to maximize life without throwing out ram and starting over in a year or two from now.

Also, what size PSU would be good if I plan to run 2 x GTX470s?

I never put two cards in a SLI configuration, this will be my first. I assume that I need the bridge cable? If I put the cards in slot 1 and slot 3, does the cable reach just fine?

Thanks again for the help, once I narrow down these last few things, the cash register will ring over at Newegg

Well I can answer your PSU part ,hands down.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...scrollFullInfo

Thats a lot of ram, are you doing some high end video editing or something? Other wise 6 gig should be good.

I just read your previous post ,I understand.

I was like you about 3 months back. Cant say how happy I am with my sig rig. The ssd thing made my world rock with this board. Hope it is going well

How would a 970 overclock? I'm thinking of buying a 970, and this board? Also what ram should I use to get the best overclocking?

^ It works great! I have both the 970 and R3F and got it up to 4GHz without even trying.

To everyone else with this board, which BIOS are you guys using? I mean I went to Asus site and saw a newer version (0505). The one I have now is 0402.

What kind of cooling? I only plan on air.

And what do you think the max is on air.

I did upgrade from 0402 to 0505, the only thing I noticed was the cpu temperature reading in hardware monitor was 10C higher, might be a bug. Everything else was the same.

I <3 this board btw!

Depends on your chip but I'm pretty sure that you could get up to at least 4GHz and maybe more. Btw, I'm using H70 on mine since the Obsidian is really bad with air cool (it's my sig rig).

Cool! Thanks for the info. I guess I'll hold off on the update then. And yeah, this is a really good board. Rob was right, I love the layout.

Looked over this thread and a few others. I'm looking for a nice and stable 4.0ghz OC with HT. Going to use Robilar's mobo settings and see what those do for me. Do you really need to gradually increase settings or can you go right to it, so to speak?

Any tips would be appreciated and I will post my results later tonight or tomorrow. I'll be checking this thread if anyone has any good insights.

Also, I posted earlier about maybe producing a benchmark thread for this board, anyone interested?

I got my board open box and it is working fine so far. Saved $100
