Has anyone put to use the included optional fan? If so are your NB temps any better with it on?

I only know guides for Core i7 (here's one of them), don't know if they'll work on your Xeon chip.

Looking for some recommendations. Thanks in advance.
Welcome to OCN and your rig looks good so far. The only thing I'd recommend you change is that Zalman cooler. I'd rather get a Noctua NH-D14 instead. Check out Air Cooling section for more info (or more specifically, the NH-D14 club).

Nope, it wasn't compatible with my Corsair H70. It ended-up hitting the radiator and front fan. Would've been nice though, seeing as the nb temps are high enough as is.

I did, but it doesn't seem to make any difference. Pretty weak fan. A Spotcool fan works way better.

I only changed 4 settings related to voltages and clocks.

BCLK frequency: 191
CPU Voltage: 1.24375
QPI/DRAM Voltage: 1.22500
DRAM BUS Voltage: 1.64300

All changes were based on recommendations from this thread. There is a lot of good information in that thread even though it doesn't specifically apply to the R3F board.
Just as a note to others, to run 12GB at that BCLK on my setup takes 1.3~1.35V on the QPI. The 3x4GB stick option I chose changes the behavior of the board significantly. Still stable, but to reach the 2000MHz mark takes more voltage than I'm willing to apply. Patriot was recommending 1.68v on the QPI to stabilize those DIMMS!! Not a lot of info out there on how these Core i7 chips fare with that kind of potential applied. IOH also requires a hefty bump for SLI- what have others found in regard to IOH?

dudes,

I have been trying many different overclocks with the 970, trying higher multi or higher bclk and I have come to decide that I prefer a lower mutli and higher bclk? Am I crazy? It seems to perform much better with my ram slightly overclocked than with the higher mulit and lower ram speed.

I am getting 2 570's tomorrow and thought that a nice oc for high bclk would be good for some benching tomorrow night!

I'm running 205x21 now, 1.32vcore, 1.26vqpi

Hey! I'm new here and I'd like to join the RIIIF owner's club ^^
Meanwhile, I'd also like to get some help T_T

Recently, I built my rig (my sig) (no pun intended) under a tight budget and finally came to completion a few days ago. I ran into a few preliminary problems and a lot of BSODs but it seems stable now... Oh yeah, this is my first time overclocking too ^^;;

I've read and followed all sorts of guides in overclocking my i7 to 4GHz but none of them work for some reason. I tried light overclocking and some easy OC features offered by the ASUS mobo and they work with stability. I did hit the 4GHz mark at one point in modding and OCing but with a 1.4 Vcore T_T
If you guys can help me out it would be great.. or point me in some kind of direction or some BIOS recommended settings with a similar setup to mine.

Here's the BIOS setting I tried to hit the 4GHz mark. If they don't have [AUTO] setting, then I explicitly put in numerical values.

Asus Rampage III Formula - BIOS 0505

Sync Mode: Disabled
AI Overclock Tuner: Manual
Overclock from CPU Level Up: Auto
2D Performance Booster: ???
CPU Ratio Setting: 21 (maybe I can leave this to auto?)
CPU Turbo Power Limit: Enabled

CPU Ratio Setting: 21.0
C1E Support: Disabled
Hardware Prefetcher: Enabled
Adjacent Cach Line Prefetch: Enabled
MPS and ACPI MADT Ordering: Modern

Intel HT Technology: Enabled
Active Processor Cores: All

BLCK Frequency: 190
PCIE Frequency: 103
DRAM Frequency: 1523
ULCK Frequency: 3237
QPI Link Data Rate: 6857MTs
Memory Configuration Protect: Disabled

CPU Differential Amplitude: 700am
CPU Clock Skew: Normal
IOH Clock Skew: Normal

Digi+ PWR Mode: T-balance
PWM Volt. Control: Auto
Load-Line Calibration: 0%
CPU Voltage OCP: Enabled
CPU PWM Frequency: Auto

Extreme OV: Disabled
Extreme OC: Auto

CPU Voltage: 1.325v (if I leave this to auto, it goes to high 1.4vs)
CPU PLL Voltage: 1.802v
QPI/DRAM Voltage: 1.28125
DRAM Bus Voltage: 1.590

IOH Voltage: 1.15275v
IOH PCIE Voltage: 1.5105v
ICH Voltage: 1.113v
ICH PCIE Voltage: 1.5105v

CPU Spread Spectrum: Disabled
PCIE Spread Spectrum: Disabled

These are the settings I came as close to getting 4GHz... I also tweaked around RAM settings to CAS Latency 7s and 19 and left them auto too, but nada.

Hello all,
I'm new to this board, both asus and forum.
I just joined the rampage 3 formula club last week(big gigabyte fanboy, until my second board died). I just got myself a i7-950 as well. I have been trying to hit 4.4ghz for about a week now, getting a little discouraged to be honest. I am rather new to i7 overclocking, had a 920 before, but that thing got to 4.0Ghz on auto everything except cpu vcore. This one is fighting me a bit. I see quite a few people on here running at 4.4 and even 4.5. Stock vcore on my chip is pretty low something like 1.17 as shown by cpu-z. My temps in IBT never go above 58*C with 22*C in the room. I passed 30 IBT runs with 21X210, 1.35Vcore and 1.35 Qpi/Dram, 1.65625 Dram, everything else on auto(well dram timings set to 8-8-8-24) but no matter what voltages I have one or two cores failing in prime... They pass IBT however... I don't get it. Fresh win & install yesterday same deal... Can anyone post their voltages please with this board and i7-950? I am kind of tired chasing this number. Oh HT is off and LLC is set to full...
