Official Asus Rampage III Formula Review/Owners Guide - Page 37

Thanks guys,
Spoke to soon I guess... Passed LinX with flying colors on 30 passes this time around(just to make sure) and failed prime after 5.5hrs
Same settings as before, I figured I'll double check myself.

I am so confused. I mean LinX was practically raping my system using almost all the ram and 100% CPU. Prime blend was using barely half the mem and fails... What gives?

There's bunch of other settings I have no idea about... cpu skew all that, I mean should I be looking at something else beside voltages?

Sorry this is only my second experience with I7... I am sure there is way more to it than what I am doing.

@Davit

If you get pass LinX but fail with Prime blend, it´s your IMC or ram that can´t cope with stress, probably it´s your IMC so either back down your UnCore frequency or rise your QPI/DRAM Core voltage and try again.

Right on man, uncore is set to lowest ATM... or auto... How can I tell what my uncore is if it is on auto?
I am going to up the QPI yet again and see what happens.

If you set it to auto I think you can´t see it in the bios, you have to check with CPUz, memory tab, NB frequency.

If it´s set to auto the board set it to the most suitable regarding to your ram frequency.

Hey guys I've just got a couple questions about this board.

1. Do I have to install the Realtek Audio drivers AND the SupremeFX drivers? Or can I just install the SupremeFX drivers. I've tried installing both and when I opened up the EAX control panel it got me to select the Realtek device then said it wasn't supported. Are you guys using just the Realtek ALC889 drivers or the SupremeFX drivers?

2. Are the temperature leads that comes with the R3E available by itself? I've tried ringing up a few computer stores here and no one knows and had a look on the Asus website and they didn't mention them being available separately.

Thanks everyone!

1) I installed realtek first, then did the FX. From my understanding you need to have both, cuz if you look at the board there's a realtek chip and also FX chip... confusing is what that is... Also I got all the drivers from Asus website instead of using the disk. Not sure that makes much difference, but I figured there could have been few updates.

2) This is the only thing they list as a replacement part for the extreme

You might get lucky doing a search on it on that site or calling support, but I doubt you will get far...
Why not use software to monitor the temps?

Any motherboard waterblocks fit on this board? I've only ran into one from Koolance. Also, am I right when I say the CPU fan header can't control 3 pin fan speeds on this board? When I connect my GT-15s to it they run at full speed last time I checked. When connected to other fan headers on the board though they can be slowed down.

Koolance is the only one I have seen so far.

I'm curious as to what you guys are getting for northbridge and southbridge temps? I'm getting NB 54c, SB 52c. Thinking of adding a mobo water block to my loop.

I'm seeing IOH temps in the high 50's. I kept pumping the volts to IOH to get SLI to work reliably, may or may not have been the root cause... Either way, I'm glad Koolance is on board with us (pun). That's another $150 after shipping to slip under my wife's nose, so I may wait a bit until things settle down after this build...

As for Realtek, Asus posted an updated driver around the 17th of January. The sound ran fine without any driver, but I decided to give it a try with the X-fi emulation. Things are noticeably better, but I get occasional pops and crackles, like with footsteps or other ambient sounds in games. Can't put my X-fi card back in until I get a single-slot plate for GPU #2. At least the Realtek-nVidia conflict is gone... but I don't have the HDMI audio jumper installed, nor its associated drivers.
