You need to bump that QPI/DRAM Core voltage, why?

Well, SLI put strain on the QPI bus and together with a UnCore Frequency of 3200MHz you going to need a QPI/DRAM Core voltage of 1,40 - 1,45 to make it stable.

OK fellas need a bit more help. I got her 4.4 stable without HT, but I cannot sleep at night knowing I am using my core i7 like my 9650. So I need to get HT back just to say I did it. My temps are now in 68* with what I have in bios now. That is pretty good, esp since I am idling at 35*C in 22*C room.

I can pass linX all day long, but fail prime on 1 core after 5hrs... why?!

H0urg1ass- I am finding SLI difficult outside of my 24/7 settings at the moment. I'm playing with higher multipliers but leaving BCLK at the 192 that it has been doing well at. At 4.2, OCCT, memtest, and SuperPi are stable, but my SLI is not. I am currently at IOH 1.219, QPI 1.400 in Bios. At 21x multi, everything runs perfectly. Like I said, at 22x I lose SLI. I'd like to be stable at 22x or 23x to make me feel like I've bettered my Q9650 for my money... so, I'm still trying, so we may be in the same boat.

Davit, why the high PLL? Any issues with the bump in ICH?

-----

**edit:

I have been watching voltage with the RC Remote, and decided to grab my Fluke 88.

I am finding that QPI pulls down the most, under both SuperPi and 3DMark11. It takes 1.425 bios to get 1.40v idle, and pulls down into the high 1.30's under load with SLI and 12GB ram.

IOH pulls down considerably- 1.24550v set point, 1.19 under heavy GPU load, 1.22 idle. Now I'm at 4.4/192 and 10x Dimm multiplier, stable. Got there by aiming for 1.2v measured.

I can't seem to get the overclocks that work on my GPUs at 4.0GHz to run at 22-23x. PCI bus at 105, no other changes there. There must be some way to get SLI to get along with the higher multis. SLI is perfectly stable on 3DMark11 and Vantage at stock speeds and 4.4GHz. Clearly, the best 3DMark11 results come from GPU overclocking and does not scale with CPU. I am determined to get both portions in the system running in harmony.

Well the high ppl got me 5hrs, not sure why. Without it blend seems to fail sooner...
I don't know how good it is to run that high of the ppl.
I haven't tried bumping ICH much, I read somewhere that it can corrupt sata HDDs... don;t know how much water that holds, but...
What should I bump it up to? And if I am bumping it up should I lower the ppl to 1.88 as well?
post #396 of 623
@Davit

You have to bump up the QPI/DRAM Core voltage, if you run UnCore frequency of 3200MHz you probably need up to ~1,40v or more depending on how good your IMC are.

You know that if you run one instance of P95 blend it only give you a load of up to 1600MB ram even though you run 8 threads, in my opinion that´s not a good enough stress for the IMC so...

I suggest to run 4 instances of P95 custom with 2 threads (if HTon, 1 thread each if HT off) each and divide the amout of free ram with four.

Example: 8 threads, 5,0Gb of free ram > 4 instances of P95 custom with 2threads and 1250Mb of ram load for each.

This way you put a lot of stress on the IMC and the subsystem.

Right on Ghost,
Now do I leave the vcore the same???
post #398 of 623
@Davit

I guess P95 runs okay then.

About vcore, try to lower it if it´s possible.

Lol not quite.
I gave it as much as 1.412++ vtt and no go...
BSOD wit 124 after 5hrs. Not I know it's a vtt, but I cant just keep feeding the damn thing voltage... especially since 124 can go either way. What is a safe vtt for system that is used on daily basis???

What I am trying to figure out is why there is so much stress on IMC when my mem runs below 1600(rated for 2000) and I only run 6GB.
Is there something else I can tweak to make IMC be more stable? IOH???
Hell with the last setting I had I run linX for 50 passes with 5GB+ used(I have a separate drive I use for benching, just a clean windows install) and pass it without a flinch. How does that not put more stress on IMC, but prime95 blend fails??? With BSOD never the less?!
Hell I hated my 920, but that thing chugged on all 8 and 4.2 and never *****ed

post #400 of 623
@Davit

The thing is that one have to run the UnCore (UnCore consist of both the L3 Cache and IMC) twice the ram frequency and the default UnCore frequency for a i7 950 is 2133MHz and the highest official ram frequency is 1066 so when you try to run ram at 1600 your UnCore frequency bump to 3200MHz, that´s quite a big leap and sometimes it need a lot of voltage to get it stable.

One thing to consider is when you OC your CPU to 4,4GHz and UnCore to 3,0GHz and put both under load it might not cope with the heat.

Have you tried to downclock to 4,0GHz with lower vcore and the same UnCore frequency?

When you set 1.412 in bios what is your real value? it drops quite a bit under load, you can use a DMM and read the value at the measurement points, if you find that the drop is to big you can enble the QPI LL, you might need ~1,45 in real value to be stable with P95.

Don´t know why LinX with the same ram load as P95 blend is okay and not P95, might be that the L3 Cache don´t get any load with LinX but with P95.

Safe voltage, I really don´t know, as you don´t use red figures I guess it´s okay.

Have you tried to run HCI Design Memtest?
