Did you clear CMOS using the on-board button? You really should. I swapped CPUs (identical chip-for-chip) and had boot hangs until I hard-cleared CMOS. It is free, where swapping components often isn't.

ok so i rad thro the threads and im new to OCing. but i made my own thread with some help, but still a little in left field.

here is my current settings for 4235.6 MHz i have i7-970 with R3F mobo water cooling, my max temps get high as 75C under full load . and idle around 34-39C

im at 4236.7 mHz right now.
AI OVERCLOCK TUNER - Manual
OC FROM CPU LEVEL UP-Auto
Multi-25 BCLK - 169

b0ot, you did not ask any questions in your first post, therefore you did not receive any helpful answers. Your 4.2 settings look good, and your CPU/Uncore voltages are nice for those speeds. Your RAM can and should be increased to 1600, but I would sync with the BCLK by running RAM at 1690 and keeping the recommended timings for 1600. I would consider runing 8-9-8-24-1T in the ~1600MHz range, but you should test this carefully with MemTest86+. This is also assuming you have 3x4GB configuration, where the tRFC needs to be a little looser than a 3x2GB set. I have no experience with 6x2GB configurations, but that should be a helpful start. Leave all voltages on default (not auto) except CPU, Uncore, and vDimm- those are what you need to tune for your stable overclock.

I am also surprised that you are getting 75C temps out of only 1.35v CPU/Uncore on water cooling. Didn't know the six-cores got that much hotter.

Hello Folks,

I'm an OC noob and I began recently building my 1st rig. I am currently waiting for my MB replacement since I RMA my first Asus MB.

In the meantime, I have been reading up on all these OC terminology but I am still a bit confused.

One thing I am trying to figure out is how to overclock with a locked multiplier. I have an I7 930 and I believe it goes up to 21 multiplier with 22 locked.

To test 22, do I enabled TM? or I have no choice and just increase Bclk?
My goal is Bclk 182 - CPU Ratio 22, with CPU Freq @ 4Ghz.

Also, anyone can explained what is "CPU Turbo Power Limit" is? Does it just lock the multiplier from going down or up?

Thanks

ZeusBoltThrower, and Inteller, thank you for the advice. I have been pretty faithful in to OCZ for my own builds in the past. This thing is kind of driving me nuts. I have some cash now. I am looking at the Redlines 3x4 kits. I have looked at the other brands also. I just hope that I am right about the ram and I hope it is not a MB or PS issue.

Before I would get an occasional blue screen and with memory dumps. Had 6 sticks of the OCZ in. Tried to manually set times and it would fail. I have it on Auto right now with 3 sticks in. I push the power button and I get nothing. Sometimes if I let it sit for awhile it will give me a blue screen error. I usually have to power it off and push power again and it starts working.

The newest thing is it is giving me an error that overclocking failed. I go into F1 to get in the bios. It is on 1066 for Auto on Memory. I push F10 and leave the settings alone. The machine works fine. Other than the memory is running lower than 1066.

If I am reading the AI Suite II right, then I am only getting about a max bandwidth of 533mhz on each stick.

If I can get the thing running right, with different memory, I will look at OC later.

With a locked processor the only way you can OC is increasing the BCLK. I've got an i7 920, which has a stock multiplier of 20, up to 21 with turbo. However I was able to manually select x21 in the bios with turbo mode disabled. Reason I disabled turbo mode was that I've read turbo mode will boost a single core up to x22 in single threaded apps, which I don't want when I'm dialing in my OC.

Regarding your question about CPU turbo power limit, I believe disabling it means it let's your CPU exceed it's TDP when turbo mode kicks in. I'm not sure if thatsthe only case or if it also lets it exceed TDP through normal OC/overvolting. I leave it disabled but since I have turbo mode disabled anyway not sure if it's doing anything.

Hope that's been a help.
