Palamino 1600 - Restarting

Hey,

My brother's system has been acting up ALOT lately. Random restarts, dropping into suspend when ever it feels like. Anyway, This is his setup in a nutshell.

CPU: AthlonXP 1600 Palamino
Motherboard: Crappo PC Chips Mobo
Memory: 256mb CL3 Unbranded PC2100
Graphics Card: ATi 9250 128mb

As I said, it decides to just restart when ever it feels like it. Personally, I think its a goner. In all his wisdom, he decided that he would max out the FSB. He didnt lock the AGP and PCI buses either because it's not designed for overclocking. Never the less I'm posting because I cant stand his whining about 'ARGH! its keeps restarting...rawr rawr rawr'

Any Ideas? (As pointless as this maybe)

First 2 things to look at are overheating and power supply. Out of curiousity, did he unlock his Palomino?

I dont think its overheating - it can be off for hours and hours and when he turns it on it just packs in. The power supply is a cheap 600watt thing and it hasnt been unlocked.

Swap in ypur PS to se if that's the culprit. I'm inclined to agree with sccr on this one!
At least that will eliminate the posibility!

I also think it's the PSU. I had a defective PSU that wasn't supplying enough juice to the 12V rail and the system kept shutting itself off. Have you checked it there are any sounds coming from the PSU or any burning smells? PSUs also have a life span and yours might have reached its end.
