I think he stated he didn't need any of the standard biased opinon "AMD (Intel) RULES!!!!"

If you check my post above, you will see that you are wrong, as the AMD CPU is much more expensive than a comparable Intel CPU. And next month, it will be even MORE expensive as the 920 will drop under $200.

And the guide of taking the AMD 3800 and comparing it to a 3.8 Intel is a rough comparison, and not meant to be taken as gospel.

of course, my ultimate suggestion, and I forgot this in my first post, would be to wait until Summer when the Conroe comes out from Intel. It will be lightning fast, and cheaply priced. Or at the very least, the 9xx series will be even further dropped in price and make building that system even cheaper.

Yeah, I would disregard that persons post. Something to consider: the 920 is utilizing the 65nm core, while the AMD 3800 is still 90nm. From what I understand, you'd have a lot more performance and overclocking ability with the Pentium D. I've only heard good things about the 65nm's.

Well I was simply planning ahead for a purchase this summer, so waiting for the conroe won't exactly be painful. Any idea on what it will perform like or how much it will cost?

Do you care to provide proof? This is an incorrect statement.

This is a very common myth. 3800+ Does not mean it is equal to a 3.8Ghz Intel. Also, you said the X2 3800+ is cheaper? It is about $50 more....

I wish there was a rep-...

Thats for the intelligent post! rep+

Your best bet is the Pentium D 950. Wait until April 24th, and the 950 will cost about $300. If you do not want to wait, go for the 920 or 930. With good aircooling the 920/930 can easily hit 4.0Ghz. There is an excellent review by Overclock Australia comparing Intel and AMD dual cores. Pretty much they determined that at stock speeds AMD is the best choice, but overclocked using air, Intel provides a better option. At the top end (FX60 955EE) Intel and AMD are pretty much even now.

I just read your post...

The Conroe presents a complete domination over all current Intel and AMD computers. Not only in power, but price, and power consumption.

The E6600 (2.4Ghz) has a stock superpi time of 21 seconds. According to our overclock.net 1M SuperPi record the fastest Intel and AMD computers come in at 24 seconds. That is a 5.466Ghz P4 and a 3.476Ghz Operton. Considering that, you can see that the Conroe offers unreal performance.

It gets even better! The E6600 will only cost $316!

Considering the statement for comparison of 820 and 3800+ X2 there is no doubt that the Power Per Watt and Instructions per tick will yield a more robust processor on the AMD platform at this time. Yes, if you spend more to cool the 820 and overclock it highly you will get a closer comparison but when one considers that a stock heatsink/fan assembly (with heatpipes) comes standard with the X2 and the overclock that can be achieved without any additional outlay one very likely will choose the AMD over the Intel.

This comparison is in keeping with the original posters parameters.

hmm the 950 becomes pretty much the same price as the 920 as of now.. if u can wait i would get that or even get the Conroe E6400 for pretty much the same price. but if u cant wait untill Q3 06 which i dono is i think summer?? or even if u cant wait till the Price cuts at aprl 23rd i think go for the 920. if u can wait get the 950 or E6400 for same price as what u get now. dont rush this becuase im in the exact smae situation i can get a 920 or 3800X2 right now but im waiting to get a 2 times better deal

The 920 is no longer being produced, nor is it getting the revision that the 930 and up are getting. Therefore you want to get at least a 930. For the Conroe, you want to get the E6600 for the extra L2 cache. It is the best bang/buck processor there is in the Conroe family.

id wait for conroe...in my opinion you either be patient and get the way better deal with unmatched performance (in this case) or you be impulsive and still get a good processor but when the conroe comes out and you just bought a new processor not too long ago youd prolly kick yourself (maybe id kick myself lol)
