i5 $1000 Budget Gaming Build - Page 2

I would dump the VelociRaptor in favor of an ssd and also probably try and get a better video card because the 5770 isn't all that amazing.

yeah, I am just not sure how to accomplish this without going over the $1,000 mark. Maybe try and go something cheaper on another component? Remember, this is a budget system

In which case drop the VR completely and go with the Samsung 1Tb F3 in RAID0, save for an SSD laters

I own a 5770 and would tell you to go for the 460 768mb as well. You can get the ASUS directcu for roughly $175, and there's quite a few others in that price range. If you change nothing else it's still within your budget.

Oh. I went for the i5 over the AMD chip too. The i5 will "win" at gaming every time, and at rendering/encoding (benchmarks, both at 2.8ghz: http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/147?vs=191 ) half the time. Can also overclock just as much if not more. All around a much better deal IMO.
Why upgrade?

So I have been doing some more reading, and it seems like it might be a waste not to do some sort of SSD setup. so I was looking through deals on new egg, and found a bunch of combo deals I could get to bring the price down, drop the raptor and add a OCZ vertex 2 SSD

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820227550

one of the combo deals I found offered this mobo :
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813188055

over the ASUS that was posted earlier, its still P55 and it seems comparable, it just doesn't have the SATA 3 and USB 3 ports. I don't think my brother has any plans to use those ports, what do you guys think between those 2 mobos? It does save about 30 bucks that I can put towards SSD and the nvidia 460

(EDIT: this is the combo I am refering to btw

yeah, the ASUS I was lookin at doesn't have any of the good combos / rebates I was lookin for though, trying to bring the price down to accomodate SSD and 460GTX. Trying to find a way to justify the cost of a SSD in this setup
