adobe premiere cs5 mercury engine on geforce?

Thread Starter
hi, i added the gtx480 to the supported cards list and enabled GPU acceleration in the project setting, though i don't have any dropped frames when i test it with tons of effects, my cpu's usage when playing back is still maxed out... isn't the mercury engine suppose to let the gpu takeover and free most of the cpu's workload? and the encoding when exporting is still slow(i heard it's suppose to be done in like 10 seconds or something with mercury). anyone that runs mercury engine on a geforce card knows what's going on? i learned that the gtx280 is officially supported by adobe so i don't know why gtx480 won't work properly...

p.s. my gpu's temperature stays the same when playing back, does that mean it's not doing any work?

Maybe its because its not supported? Fermis have a different architecture so it leads me to beleive it is not optimized for that arch.

I believe Fermi are not supported yet.
Once again...

Your card can be supported, you need to do a simple hack.
http://mting806.spaces.live.com/blog...0D2!1655.entry

After you do that, make sure you go into your project settings and enable mercury playback engine(make sure it's in hardware mode)

If you've already done these steps but still have problems... then I don't know what to say. I've seen people use less powerful systems and their CPU usage only hovers around 30% after applying heavy color grading.

"hi, i added the gtx480 to the supported cards list and enabled GPU acceleration in the project setting, though i don't have any dropped frames when i test it with tons of effects, my cpu's usage when playing back is still maxed out... "

Maybe that's the reason? Try adobe forums, you'll probably get better answers there.

Awww that's sad, maybe I'll try to decode with hd formats with no effects and see if the gpu will do some work, my guess is gpu can't do effects otherwise they'd have the mercury engine in after effects too right

Yeah try it with no effects and keep us updated. I'm a bit curious to see the results. But I don't see a problem... You said you're using "tons of effects" but no dropped frame rates... other than the CPU maxing out, I'd be pretty happy lol
