the graphics i think will probably depend on your video card and will probably look even better if you have like two 7900GTX and everything set on high with some crazy plasma moniter or hook it up to a HDTV (i'm guessing really ) the dual core thing i cant think of anything though

well i was wondering about dual core patches for it because the xbox 360 has 3 cpu cores so i assumed that the game engine was multi threaded

The game on PC actually already utilizes dual-core to some extent. The 360 versions graphics are almost as good as that of a maxed out PC. You would need at least a 7800gt to run it as well as the 360.

There is no need for a patch its pretty much made to run on duals.

*GC: Oblivion will absolutely benefit from a multi-processor or multi-core PC architecture. These improvements have largely been driven by our optimizations for the Xbox 360 hardware. We have built a dynamic thread management system that manages processor load by our specific direction and by priorities. Portions of physics, AI, loading, audio, and rendering tasks can all be moved to different threads to keep the overall load balanced. The net result for the end user is a smoother experience.*

Look in my thread. In the first tweak guide, there is a part that tells you how to turn on multi-threading'

"4) Threads
The following tweaks appear to have a positive impact, but they are by their nature dependent on your hardware. While the theory goes that dual-core machines will benefit most, single core CPUs also spend a merry time running multiple threads, and these tweaks have helped single-core users too.

But remember, just because these tweaks allow Oblivion to better use your processor's resources, they don't necessarily mean the game will run faster. In fact, the benefit of these tweaks appears to deal more with preventing or reducing pauses and slowdowns than improving your framerate. Which is still a Very Good Thing.

bUseThreadedBlood=1 (default 0)
bUseThreadedMorpher=1 (default 0)
bUseThreadedTempEffects=1 (default 0)
bUseThreadedParticleSystem=1 (default 0)
bBackgroundLoadLipFiles=1 (default 0)
bLoadBackgroundFaceGen=1 (default 0)
bCloneModelsInBackground=1 (default 0)
bBackgroundPathing=1 (default 0)
iNumHavokThreads=3 (default 1)

Keep in mind that threads aren't magical cookies of blazing speed. The more threads you run, the more resources are required to run them. This actually leads us to the [OpenMP] section of your .ini file. Set the following:

iThreads=20 (default 3)
iOpenMPLevel=10 (default 10)

OpenMP is a specification for a multi-platform shared-memory multithreading API. It helps make it easy for developers to integrate parallel processing in their programs, and has the nifty ability of being able self manage threading resources -- threads are activated for parallel processing from a pool as required, so it's possible for an application to branch out from a single thread into multiple threads and then return to a single thread.

What this means to our understanding of Oblivion is not particularly a lot -- except perhaps to say that the iThreads setting is likely a limit to the maximum number of threads in the pool, and not the number of threads that will run continuously. You don't suddenly get Uber Performance by setting a high value here, you only allow Oblivion to use more threads if they will be of benefit. So how many threads can Oblivion make use of at its peak? Great question. If you know the answer, drop me a line at amills@atomicmpc.com.au

For the record iOpenMPLevel presumably sets the priority of the threads, for which 10 is 'Above normal' in Windows. It's probably best not to touch this -- too low and you'll hinder the performance of the threads, too high and you'll hinder the performance of everything else. It's worth noting that the previous sentence is somewhat of a total and utter guess, but it sounds good to us."

I have a 26 in monitor that allows me to do dual screen, running both the PC, and Xbox version side by side in 1280x720 AKA 720p I can say without a doubt the PC version looks better, this is using the setup below. The reason for this I believe is due to the fact that the 360 has to run at comfortable levels that will run without really laggining the system. Since there is no expectation of an upgrade to the 360 hardware the standard was set a while ago they are set in the best preformance they could run, so there is no option to change the draw distance or details of grass or anything. I couldnt say drop down to 2xAA raise the Resolution, turn up draw distance and change texture size. Hence when I kick Oblivion up on my PC which is not dual core right away, it looks better than the Xbox version even with the same resolution because I can tweak the settings for it. Also I have more RAM in my PC than the xbox360 does which I believe has to help Preformance for the added textures as well.

In the end, the PC will allways pwn the console systems, because consoles are just non upgradable PC's.
