Dislike the Catalyst Control Centre? Get the Cat 6.3 Drivers with Control Panel Only

I personally hate the sluggish, poorly designed, resource hogging Catalyst Control Centre. I long for the days when it was only an option with new Catalyst Driver releases and not mandatory.

I did a little search of The Internet and apparently I'm not the only one who prefers the old Control Panel way of managing the ATi drivers.

Here, is a link to a web page on some other forum where a guy has integrated the old style control panel with the new Catalyst 6.3 drivers.

I have downloaded this hybrid Cat version and installed it with no ill effects. If you (like me) dislike the CCC and being forced by ATi to use it with its latest drivers, why not download the hybrid Cat 6.3 drivers with CP only.

Yes, the Omega drivers are set up like this as well. I have tested the Omega drivers with my system though and have found that they don’t actually perform as well as the ATi ones, on my system anyway.

It's good to have the option of the ATi drivers with CP only though, as the CCC is a pain to use, imo.

If only ATi saw fit to offer their drivers with the CP or the CCC and not just the CCC... Oh well...

Yep, see below for a comparison I did a while ago with some of the older ATi and Omega drivers, using synthetic benchmarks.

Of course, people who use Omega will say that the drivers are "optimised" for gaming, not synthetic benchmarks, but in my experience, the ATi drivers give more consistent higher FPS than the Omega drivers and are far more stable than the Omega drivers.

Perhaps different systems will work differently with the Omega drivers and some people really will have a better result with the Omega driver vs the ATi ones, but in my experience, ATi seem to have the better drivers...
