Opty oc'd To match FX's??

Hi When Building my new rig I was considering looking into an opty.

I read in a PC Mag just recently that when overclocked the optys can actually perform as well as an FX-57??? WOw!!!!

I was wandering because I have no knowledge on overclocking would it be wise to get an opteron, how do the perform at stock speed.

Is it worth a newbie o'cer getting one or should I stay clear????

At stock speed they are good, just like a san diego. At 2.8ghz, the opteron will perform the same as the FX57.

All Optys use the "Venus" core. Venus is just a code word for the San Diego Core.

The venus cores are pretty much the same as san diegos. An opteron OC'd to 2.8 will actually perform much better than a stock fx-57(due to higher FSB) as long as you have ram that can handle the OC'd fsb.

What RAM would you highly recommend to sustain this? could you suggest a decent motherboard for this setup?

I was thinking of taking this route with my new build....I hav a budget of 600 pounds ...

Hope you can help !!!
