6600GT Temps

Thread Starter
I have a Gigabyte 6600GT AGP card with the passive cooling (huge heatsink & heatpipes) on it. I was wondering what kinda temps are safe for it.

Living in Australia, we don't exactly have nice cool temps for our pc's.
It card currently idles at about 62 degrees, i have no idea wat its getting to under load - proly around high 70's.

My case temp is at 35 degrees idle (at night)

Is this ok, what kinda temps can the 6600gt handle?

I don't think it thermal throttles until 100c. 70's are perfectly acceptable. Getting into the 80's can be questionable but if you are not artifacting its ok.

I too also reside in australia and have noticed that my temps where semmingly high. One thing i did notice with my card was that it would ctd when it hit 65c. I might recommend getting an aftermarket cooler for your graphics card and maybe setting up your case so it has intake/exhaust fans. I am picking up my new case tomorrow as well as my zalman vf700-cu cooler for the same card as yours. I figure it doesn't hurt to have fans in my case if i can tolerate the noise. besides the whine of the fans is much better than the whine of my two kids

ROFL... nice. I have the vf700 also and it dropped my load temps from the low 80's (overclocked) to 61. Use some AS5 on it too.

Ehm....I'm residing in Sydney at the moment and my rig sports a Gigabyte 256MB 6600GT with the silentpipe II cooling. It idles at 34 degrees and full loads around 48. Of course i have the crappy 6600GT because it's DDR2 not DDR3. And i've clocked it from 500/800 to 570/898. I mean my temperature is unusually low. Usually i hear cards that idle around low to mid 50's is very normal. 62 just sounds a little too high, but i'm not 100% certain. But as cdub mentioned, as long as you're not artifacting you shouldn't worry too much.

I have a new PNY 6800GS 256MB and my case temp is around 35-36. For the card under load hold 51-52 and with load I only see it go upto 54-55 So far using NvTempLog. Run Oblivian in High Quality setting just fine.

I ran 3DMark and my temp when up to 70 degress so far. Thats the highest yet.

The temps you are getting are just fine especially for the Country you live in. Just watch that your G-card doenst reach 80 degrees load as then you may start hitting problems when playing games.
