Why can't I get to the net w/ Time Warner?

I just bought a new house and had turbo Roadrunner hooked up. They hooked up a wireless network witha Netgear router/modem. The wireless network works good and I can access it with my XBox 360's and my iPhone but with a direct connection on my PC I can't get to the internet. I have W7 and my connections say that I'm connected but when I try IE or Firefox I get nothing.

I took my PC back to my old house and hooked up my DSL service and I get to the internet just fine. I go back to my old house and hook back up to Time Warner and I get the inernet for maybe a minute then I cant access it again. The folks at Time Warner think that the problem is something is running in the background blocking me from getting to the net??? They think its something to do with iTunes, IDK. I have tried reseting the router, switching ethernet ends, and setting the iTuneshelper file to shared( that seemed to fix the problem, so I shut the PC down on restart unable to get to the net again.)

I have W7, IE and Firefox, a Netgear router/modem. Should the Time Warner guy have given me a disc or something to install?

They sound retarded.
Make sure you don't have a static IP or anything on your PC.

Open a command prompt and try to ping 8.8.8.8.
Do you get a reply?

If so it might be more of a DNS issue.
You could always manually set your DNS server to 8.8.8.8 if this is the case.

Depending on the subnet on your new router versus old you might need to add another LAN to Windows Firewall, but in all honesty it should have asked "Home? Work? Public?" when you plugged it in..

Hanged the dns settings. No go I get an error stating that dns server not responding. I went and checked the routers settings and tried changing my ip and dns settings to that but I get this error:
a other computer on this network has the same ip address as this
computer.

I also get sometimes this error: windows could not automatically detect this networks proxy settings.

The wireless network still works great.

Try setting it to get ip automatically from the same area you set your dns and then close all windows, hit windows key + r then type in cmd to get a command prompt and type in ipconfig /release let it finish then do ipconfig /renew

I just hooked up my old Gateway windows xp pc and I get the internet on a direct connection to the netgear router still unable to get the ineternet on my W7 machine. It has to be a W7 problem. Should there be numbers in the (TCP/IPv4) properties screen when its on obtain automatically?

edit: guess not..I checked my old pc setting and its on automatic detect and the spaces are blank. My goodness this is frustrating!
