About the X1600PRO (AGP)...

Could some people who actually have this card give me some feedback on it?

I was considering purchasing this over the X800GTO, just for SM3.0...

I kinda want HDR, and it's a ton cheaper...

But I wasn't sure if the lower bandwidth was a problem or not, you know?
I hear all these claims of people running FEAR and stuff without a problem, etc..

but I'm not sure... I also wanna stay as cheap as possible, which means this would work out alot better than that 170 Dollar GTO.

I'm just not sure if this card is good enough to actually make use of the SM3.0 support or not. If its not ill just bite down and buy the GTO?

I would go with the GTO because of its raw power. Like you said, the x1600pro doesn't have enough power to utilize SM3 effectivley. Heck, even my 6800GS struggles with AOE3 on ultra quality (SM3 enabled).

No the 1600pro doesn't really have the power to utilize HDR in newer games unless you want to turn everything down. Also the X800GTO supports HDR in some of the games that have it just not Oblivion. If I were you I would definately get the X800GTO.

Thanks for the replies, but I just saw this...

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814140067

that thing doesn't look very bad at all
It kills the X1600 in Bandwidth, as well as pretty much everything else.

The only things it loses in is Shader Ops and memory...
Its got GDDR1 instead of 2, and still uses the old 130nm as opposed to the 90nm

On top of that it's highly oc'able, has a nice stock cooler as well, and also can be unlocked =D!

What do you guys think?

Its not all about Bandwidth. the GDDR1 memory i can see could really let you down and the features on that card are rather disapointing IMO.

what's it lacking? Features wise?

I really dont want to spend more than like 150$ max, and the GTO is really out of my price range. So that's a no on the 1600?

I really dont care about MAXING OUT OBLIVION and killing FEAR and all that stuff, I just want to be able to play the latest games at decent settings with out having to worry about everything else.

How about that? Instead of a 6600GT?

Yes thats a good card plus with a great cooler so you will be able to Overclock it when the time comes. You will notice the difference between the 6600gt an X1600 if you compare all the features.
i would go with the 800gto because i woudl trade hdr for more quality and fps

i was going to go for the x800gto when i bought my 6600gt but it was more costly

Really? What kind of features does it have?

Oh yeah, I also chose this one because of the badass cooler and the price.

It also has a 128Bit Memory Bus with 256MB of GDDR2, so it seems pretty solid.
