Fact of the matter is Conroe will destroy AMD when it is released, and I will be laughing @ the naysayers. There is absolutely no reasons for intel to say that Conroe will be 20% faster AMD and then not be able to back it up. When the cpu is released then you'll be able to discredit them, or backpeddle out of your AMD bias. Personally, I don't have any brand loyalty and will get whatever gives me the most bang for the buck.
You dont have a brand loyalty and just made yourself a intel fanboy? lol. Conroe will be 20% faster in certain situations. Not alot of benchmarks have been taken yet. Once more comes out that tests all the things a CPU can do then it can be taken as 20% always, or 20% in certain apps.

Really? In my mind that had been the biggest difference between the two. AMD at 12 and intel at 28 or 31. I've always attributed that to why intel makes for better media PC's and multi-tasking and AMD better at single application environments...like a gaming rig.

If they are using a 14 stage pipline...they are basically making an AMD core in my book.

I really wonder what will happen when people see the new intel CPU's clock speed. I have so many people buy them because they see the faster GHz on the box. I honestly don't know if the scammer companies like Dell, HP, and Gateway will want to use Intels CPU's any more since a majority of their customers buy almost solely off of the CPU clock speed. They may go to AMD instead...pow...AMD has the lead in the market.

You need to realize how few people build their own machines...I build computers for free all the time...well for the cost of parts any way. I always offer to teach them how to do it since I know with enough bannanas I could teach a drunken, retarded monkey how to do it, but most will say "Oh...no thanks, I don't want to know that stuff."

And the only people who look at real world performance and benches are those who build their own mahcines.

I cant wait till AM2 comes out, that will give Intel an even more a run for their money.
Look at latencies on both. On a stick of OCZ Gold 512MB PC3200, the timings are 2-2-2-5. That was the best-timed stick of 512MB PC3200 RAM. On the best-timed DDR2 RAM @ 667MHZ (PC5400), the best timings were 4-4-4-8 on OCZ Gold.

I think intel had Dell etc really under the thumb so that they cant change companies like that. AMD took them to court for it i think i remember.

I think everyone agrees (or probably should) that these benchmarks and tests have very little 'real world' value. Benchmarks, like PCmark and Sciencemark, have very little real value to begin with, let alone on hardware that doesn't come out for months.

The Conroe (and Woodcrest???) will probably jump ahead of the A64s for a time. It only makes sense. I highly doubt that Intel, knowing the power of current AMD processors, would release a NEW processor (read: architecture) that has little to no improvement over current gen hardware. And on top of that, give up the Ghz crown (which the simple-minded, average consumer goes by). It just doesn't make sense.

We will have to wait and see when both chip makers are on the same 65nm process before saying which is better. Its been said before, only time will tell. Until then, it is all speculation and rumor. Either way it means better, cheaper processors for everyone!

I am a hard core AMD guy and even if they take second place...I'd still use them since currently I feel like I understand how to get them to work the best. However, I agree that the Conroe will be better then the already old and obsolete Athlon 64's...it would have to be. If it wasn't they would not have dumped untold millions of dollars into devolping it. They simply would have cut the project as soon they realized that it was junk. It may strugle in the benches but who knows if our current benchmark programs are even all that compatable with the next gen of CPUs? Sounds like this is going to be a whole new engineered CPU, different from any thing that Intel has made before.

...and I am sure the AM2's will eventually beat out any thing Intel makes in the Conroe, but thats's just my own biased opinion LOL
