X1900XT and the Arctic Cooling Accelero X2

Thread Starter
I am thinking about buying the Arctic Cooling Accelero X2, but I have a few questions.

1. Is it a great cooler?
2. Is it easy to install?
3. Is it MUCH cooler than the stock cooler on the X1900XT?
4. I still have some Artic Silver 5 from my CPU, can I use that? and would it nmake a difference? and how would I apply it?

i dont know about the cooler but i guess its better then stock
all coolers are easy to install(sometimes you have to mod(cut)them)
and yes you can apply as5 the same as you apply on cpu

im confused... where do I put the AS5?

it comes with a pad but if I have a pad why do i need AS5? and what side does it go on to?

and also, is it hard to get the stock cooler off? is there any chance of me doing it wrong? any advice would be great. I dont wanna mess up the 550$ card

If there is a thermal pad you don't *need* the AS5, however it is possible that the AS5 is a better thermal conductor than the pad. If you want to use AS5, you should scrape off the existing pad (dont scratch the surface), and apply the paste to the processor on your graphics card.

As for ease of installation, i'd say unless your a retard theres very little chance of ruining your card. You just turn a few screws, position the cooler, and voila. I wouldn't worry to much about ruining your card.

The accelero isn't all that much better than your stock fan by looking at the benchmarks, however it is ALOT quieter. The stock and the accelero are about the same when the stock fan is at 100%, however if it's anything like my x850XT cooler it is incredibly loud and annoying. The accelero will be WAY quieter, allowing you to run it at 100% without the annoyance of the loud stock cooler. Worth it IMO.

Oh, and if you decide to use the AS5, make sure you don't use too much of it. It should cover the processor in a thin layer only. Don't let it muck out all over your card.

The x1900XT gets too hot for the Accelero X2, the stock cooler will do a better job. I would save you money and consider lapping the stock hsf and maybe apllying some AS5.

Im thinking the Stock cooler is the best you are going to get really anything short from Watercooling will only give you better temps. In any case i think you will fiind the Normal ATI SILENCER would cool better than that Accellero as the Ati silencer is an exhaust system whereas the Accellero isnt.
