Computer suddenly stopped connecting to internet

Thread Starter
Hey guys

Was using my computer on the internet one minute, went to get my pancakes, brought them back, and now my computer will not connect to the internet anymore...what the hell?

It says "This connection has limited or no connectivity." bla bla bla. I've tried disabling/enabling the network connection, restarting the DHCP client in services, restarted computer twice, still nothing. If I try do the "repair" on the local area connection, it gets stuck at "Renewing your IP address".

My computer is on cabled ethernet so no wireless here. I have not changed any programs or done ANYTHING at all to the computer...it just suddenly stopped working...

Tried plugging another ethernet cable in from another computer right beside mine connected to the same router and still no success...but the cable does work on this computer to which I am typing right now. So it's obviously not the cable or router...has to be something wrong with the comp.

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Ellott

try reinstalling the internet drivers for the motherboard, and if that dosent work, the ethernet port on your mobo may be dead.

Yea...will try that. Stupid ASUS motherboard. I will admit that the chipset fan on it failed a while ago and I think killed the main PCI-E slot. I've been starting the fan manually every time I start the comp because it won't start by itself anymore.

But I still don't understand why it would just die randomly like that when the temps on the chipset have been perfect (like mid 20's) all the time...

EDIT: Well reinstalled drivers and it loaded Google once and then went back to being no internet...

Any other ideas?

Try rebooting your cable modem and router. Also try renewing the ip through command line.

If you are still having issues the first thing I would do is to directly connect the modem to the computer. That way you can see if it is an issue with the computer or the network.

Have tried this already it gets stuck at "Renewing IP address" and then errors out.

Tried already but makes no difference. None of my other computers on the network are having problems.

I will try it but don't think it will make a difference.

UPDATE: Uhhh...really weird but I just turned the computer on and the internet is working again...*** is going on? Intermittent problem...

Sometimes you gotta restart it.

And AFAIK, most NB chipset fans are small, high-speed fans.

They ingest quite a bit of dirt; which does not affect larger fans, but due to the tiny bearing and motor components of those 40mm NB fans, every bit of dirt is a big clog.

If you are using a router make sure that it automatically gets the DNS settings from the provider.
