Why was the 7900GTX not supplied with a higher voltage??

Thread Starter
This just came to me as why the 7900GTX was not supplied with a higher voltage than it's current at. I mean, there was apparently a struggle to get the card to 700MHz, but it shows that with a simple modification to allow more voltage through the chip allows it to be clocked much much higher.

There must be a reason for this?

Even a simple 1.5V, .1V higher than stock, mod can get it over the 700MHz hump and hell some do at the stock 1.4V...do they think that with a 1.5V that the card will become unstable and too hot and burn the card??

Hell a stock card with around 800MHz Core and 2 Ghz Mem seems very enticing on paper and is insane for GPU benches

My guess is the same reason some car engines make over 500hp before they actually get detuned and go into cars. They have to meet certain standards before they can be sold to the public.

I'm sure Nvidia wasn't gonna take any risks of a heatsink failing and the card catching a wire on fire because of .1v increase.

Nvidia needs to take a page outta ATI's book and allow for adjsutable voltages
I have 4 different voltage options to play with, definetly a big plus if you plan on oc'ing a lot.
