AMD X4 640 System Suggestions

Thread Starter
I recently built an Intel system, budget it may have been, but totally useless. I built it around the MSI G41M-p33 motherboard-old tech. I had the system set up with SSD for windows and a Larger Hdd for programs and general storage. Long story short, that machine was impossible to get stable, I dont know if it was the motherboard or the e6500 processor but it was not the SSD I thought was giving me the problems in the first place. I tried a buddies e8400 and had identical results. I am not sure if the Ram clocks where to high, I had Corsair dominator DDR3 @ 1600mhz and the board was only rated for 1066.

What ever the constant instability was caused by has left a bad taste in my mouth about intels mid range products. I have gamed on AMD for some time and now have gone back.

Here is my new system
AMD Athalon II X4 640 @3.0Ghz
MSI 785GM-P45
Corsair Dominator DDR3 4Gb @1600Mhz
Cooler Master TX3
New WD 750Gb Caviar Black Hd
32Gb SSD Patriot Warp(I tried it out in place of the 64 GB one I have and it seems to have faster write times. The 64Gb one from the old system is my new gaming directory)
64Gb ssd Patriot Warp
MSI NGTX465 ( I am lost on the overcocking-none of the numbers make sense and in afterburner you can max everything out and it runs completely stable? Good Card? not unlockable to a 470 though.)

Now that I have the system built I am starting to OC. I read an article
http://www.overclockersclub.com/revi...2_x4_640/3.htm
and these guys are overclocking to 3.75 Ghz with a fsb increase to 251 and voltage increase to 1.44. I did that and it will only get to the windows loading screen before a BSOD. I worked backwords down to 230 that left me at 3330Mhz to find a stable setting.

Any Ideas on getting my clock Higher? I have not changed the NB voltage or clocks at all. That may be my missing link. Would I be better to limit the Multiplier and increase the FSB? any help would be good!

Overclocking on a G41? Sounds like pebkac.

The title should be "Once you try overclocking with the wrong parts, you blame it on Intel"

The ddr3 you bought wasn't meant for a g41 motherboard. If it had been a ddr2 motherboard you wouldn't have had a problem. Also It is a very poor choice for overclocking.Next time you try intel buy something that's actually capable of performance.

So I bought this '87 Camry with 376k miles on it, and man was it a pile of duce. The seats are ripped, it smells like mold, it barely runs, and it breaks down all the time. Toyotas are junk, I'll never buy one again. I'm sticking with KIA.

You're comparing AMD to KIA,the worst excuse for a car maker ever?
