RAID Raptors vs singal drive - Page 2

Well if it's before drivers and that stuff, it's faster, but I don't see much idea in testing something that can't be used. I guess my drivers are somewhat heavy to drag around.

Anyway, I have a constant tranfer rate around 240Mb/s, and bursts around the 0.5Gb/s.

What makes me happy is, that I could only get 1 74Gb Raptor for the price of my array. I guess Haha is in order

Hehe, I like it. Alot.

I have a RAID 0 of 2x 36 Raptors and another RAID0 of 2x 74 Raptors. Also a WD 300GB "backup drive" for the RAID sets. Kinda a cheap way to make sure that your data isn't lost. I can notice a huge difference between regular SATA and a single Raptor, and then a single Raptor to RAID0 Raptors. Like other people said eariler, Windows installs really quick and also boots up super quick. I can push the button for my machine and wait for it to boot, its that quick. Of course, it should be for that much money. My RAID0 sets are pulling about 140MB/s, but it isn't best way to compare them because synthetic benchmarks rate higher when there is a lower Stripe size.

I use the 2x 74GB set for Pinnacle Studio, and originally had only one Raptor storing the video until Christmas Working with the DV, you can notice a huge difference, and to me that is way more important then comparing numbers.

Oh, by the way, to make things really specific: I am running the 36's with Windows/Programs on a Intel ICH6R. The 74's hold DV/Music/Pictures and is on a Sillicon Image 3114 controller

Good Luck!
