Troubles unlocking 555

Thread Starter
Alright, so, I think my chip in unlockable but my bios is stopping me from doing it.

Reason is, I hit the switch, it says 4 cores enabled. Get to the windows loading screen (just before the other loading screen to get into the desktop) and it either freezes or crashes.

So, at first I thought, well maybe I don't actually have a stable quad core. But then I tried disabling 2 cores while the unlock was enabled and it still does the same thing. I think it is just the ACC on this mobo and wondering how I can unlock this puppy.

Thanks for any help. I have the latest .ROM for the bios, but I haven't installed it yet. Maybe I should just update the ROM. Any ideas how?

edit: Current Update
  • Won't let me flash to the latest bios. Tried unzipping the .rom as well. Still won't allow the flash to happen (using ez flash).
  • Upped cpu, cpu/nb, nb voltages. Loaded default settings. No show.
  • Tried 3 cores. 2 Cores. 1 Core. Still won't get back windows loading screen.

So it's like your motherboard can't handle a quad. Did you try just 1 core unlocked instead of 2?

i'll give that a shot now.

It should be able to handle a quad, it can handle 6 cores apparently

edit: alright, tried with 3 cores disabled and it still wouldn't run.

Have you updated the bios yet? When you unlocked to 4 cores did you bump up the vcore a notch? You may need more voltage to get it stable while unlocked.

tried all teh way up to 1.5V. But even at 1 core at stock voltage it should get past the windows loading screen shouldn't it?

how do i go about updating my bios on this mobo? when i got the mobo, about a few months ago, the shop updated the bios for me. but i notice there is a new one.

I hate to say this but it could be a bad chip. But it really doesn't make sense if 3,4 can run as perfect as 1,2. Is 3,4 stable at prime?

see i can't see why it could be a bad chip.

if 2 cores work when the core locker in disabled, but once enabled it doesn't work. even if only 1 core is enabled.

I had to up my CPU/NB volt to get my unlocked core stable. It's at 1.35

To check which version you have click on cpu-z motherboard tab and it will tell you what you have now.
Go to your motherboard website and DL the newest version and save to desktop, now drag and drop it on a blank flash drive. Your owners manual will tell you how to flash the bios using the flah drive.
