Hot temperature...

Thread Starter
Wow...my x1900 crossfire have reached 80-82 degrees while I was doing 3DMark06. Is this a normal thing or is my card too hot? Anyways to cool it down? I'm so scare because of that high temperature.

That's pretty hot. If I were you, I'd increase ariflow through your case, maybe jerry-rig a fan to blow onto the cards.

Its not uncommon to see GPU temps that high. GPU's have a higher tollerance to temperature than CPU's.

If you have the available funds i would suggest looking at an aftermarket cooler as you can easily knock 20*c of those stock cooler temps.

Have a look at the Zalman coolers and also the Arctic silencer ones

So it's little bit too hot huh? I mean I used the stock speed and actually it even down clocked it's only like 540/590. Unless I unlock the key then it would be 621 and 770, almost at rated speed. But they considered that overclocked?

This is true However 80 Deg is getting unconfortable. You ned to increase airflow in your case. Intake fans at the front and Exhaust fans at the back. I doubt you need another cooler for that GPU as the one you have is definately good enough.

They're definently big enough.

But yeah, just go out and buy a few fans, put them where you can. Even a little bit of airflow always beats none at all.

The thermal threshold is in the region of 120*C on the older ATI cards, not that you want to be anywhere near those temps.

I would just like to point out tho that Zalman Designed the VF900 cooler specifically to deal with the thermal output of the X1900 series cards so there was a good reason for it

Its not a very good comparision but my X850XT is now 20*C cooler by the addition of a good cooler and now my temps remain below 48*C when running at a big overclock

Yeah, I've order 3 fans, and 3 fan filters. Is it good to use fan filter or just use the fan and clean the case more often, which is better? BTW My VC Idle is 50 degree Celcius, and cold start is 47*(meaning b4 I run intense 3D Apps, and get to 80* Cel). I hope the 3 fans helps a little bit. THanks guys.

Below 48* as of including load temps? Wow that's such nice temp I wish I had that. But how easy is it to install that VF900 and is it cheap? Newegg have 'em? I wanna cool my card a bit so I can overclock just a tiny bit for fun.

Yeah thats load temp after a couple of hours of BF2.

The Zalman coolers are very easy to install imo. The zalman website even has flash vids to show you how to do it

http://www.zalman.co.kr/ (cant directly link sorry, they use flash )

Im not saying its the best way but its going to improve those load temps dramatically. Cant find any reviews with it installed on your card
