It'll still run at standard voltages??? WOW. I'd love to put one of those under a TEC or phase... Can't wait until someone around here grabs one!!

@ Msk2005

It is against rules to lobby for Rep points.

Considering that the original Athlon was released as a 500MHz part it is an amazing extension for them to have increased via technology the ableness of the architecture from a 500MHz part to a 3000MHz (sixfold).

They surely belong in the processor fray. Well done AMD.

Based on the FX60's overclocking ability, I doubt that this will be able to overclock a lot. AMD is at the limit of their 90nm 939 processors. This will be a very poor overclocker.

That is impressive, but I think that 3.0Ghz is a stretched limit, AMD is going to need 65nm in a hurry!

I don't know... They've been able to lower the power of 2.0Ghz 3800 X2's to 35w... I think they've got a ways to go yet.

And those are 65nm are they not? However, how much power it is using is not an idication of wether it is at the limit of the architecture or not.

1xx is one way (one CPU), 2xx is two way (two CPUs), 8xx is eight way(up to eight CPUs). There are 1xx CPUs on socket 940 as well.

I think we could very well see 3.6 ghz out of these new Opterons. Why not? I've seen FX-57's hit 3.6 and they start out with a 200 mhz disadvantage. I don't think they are at there limit, and still have alot of headroom.

Really? Every 1 series Opteron I've ever seen has been stated that it was for socket 939.
