Hopefully by Saturday I should have some reports. My best SuperPI @ 4.5 was 28 seconds, I'd love to get it down to 27 or lower.

Any suggestions from those who've hit 5ghz? Specificaly regarding PCIE, because @ 4.5ghz with PCIE locked @ 100 I was having issues OC my 7800GT. Anyone else have this problem?

Stay tuned
First off, make sure to flush that Apogee VERY well. Personally, after seeing all the scraps of copper that people are finding in there, I would take the block apart and clean it.

If you are having PCI-E issues, try raising the PCI-E frequency 1mhz at a time, up to about 110mhz. However, are you sure it's the PCI-E bus that is causing problems and not the video card itself?

Good luck!

Other there will be many screen shots, depending on how long it takes me to get everything up and running I'll try and run a 3dmark06 too.

Only 2 more hours of work, then it's time to rip everything apart. Should have some cpu-z shots up by later tonight.

Once I get it stable, it's time to REALLY start folding.

Lando,
Thank you for the heads up on the apogee, I was going to flush it but I didn't realize the problem could be that bad.

As far as the PCIE issue, I'm about 99% sure it's the frequency and not the card. When I was tweaking it before it would be gradually more stable up to about 108mhz, unfortunately at that point the FSB was so far past what the ram could handle it didn't matter anymore because the ram was too unstable. 108 is pretty high though and I'm hoping part of it was due to the ram, 105 I can deal with but I'd rather not be much over 110. SATA drives tend to get goofy much beyond 110, why I still have no idea but by 120 it's hit or miss if they are recognized at boot, for me anyway.

Well, got a bit delayed, so I am only just now finishing the WC install. Looking good so far though, @ 4.5ghz my idle temps are down to 39C, but ambient temp is 80F sooooo I'm expecting them to drop lower.

here are some pics:

Still need to get the cold cathode UV lights in and start my OC..... but it's progress.

I will say one, you really can't imagine what a 65db fan sounds like until it's ROARING in your ear! But eh, the sacrifices we must make for cooling. Need to take a break for food, beer, and a smoke, then it's back to business!
