EPOX 4G4A+ Questions

Thread Starter
Hey guys im new to the site and new to overclocking and have been putting together a kind of learning rig for overclocking. So far its just a Epox 4G4A+, with a Celeron 2.7, 1 gig of samsung ram, ATI radeon 9200 SE, and two 80 gig barakudas on RAID 0, in a custon case. I have it oc'd to about a 3.10 with my idle temps right around 38, and underload like playing CSS is about 49, with prime 95 it would get to about 53. My question is i have my ram on the 3:4 setting would the 4:3 setting be better for my system, and also should i bump up my ram voltage any? I currently have my CPU voltage bumped up .25. Im sure this isn't the right forum but im sure one of you that answer my other question can answer this one also, what would be better than a radeon 9200 se, the board only supports a 4x for the agp slot, so what would be good? Thanks for any info you guys can supply it is greatly appreciated.

Hi GTI,

Welcome to the forums,

If you look to the top of the web page you will see an area called CP (Character Profile). If you enter your profile and insert your system specifications then it will be easier and better for those who help to be able to take the hardware specifications into account.

I would set your ram to a 1:1 which is 400:400. Have you tested for stability with Prime95 and SuperPi?

A 6600GT with 128MB of GDDR3 RAM will be a decent addition to your system and will not be very bound by your cpu. I would not move higher with your current hardware. You will be able to play pretty well all games albeit some will have to be on low resolutions and eye-candy but you will be able to play.

Aight thanks i did my profile atleast i think i did i will se after this post lol, i was looking at one of those cards and it says there an 8x, in my manual it says a 8x card could seriously damage the hole board, is that somthing all mobo manufactures say just to cover there ass or is that somthing i should take into consideration lol. The only thing you mist was should i change any of my voltage setting as far as my ram and my processor, and if a idle temp of 38, and a full load temp of 51.50 is ok for a celeron, ive read if you start to get above 55-60 you should back it off. I only play Counter Strike Source on this rig and my temps only get up to 47 there, but prime 95 they will get up to 51-52. Thanks for all your help, appreciate the quick responce.

Your voltages should only be raised if the overclock is failing. That is a 4X AGP slot but the issue is not that an 8X video card will not be accepted. The issue is that this motherboard supports a 1.5 Volt Video Card. Now 0.8V is the voltage requirement of new 8x AGP cards utilizing AGP specification 3.0. Motherboards supporting 8x AGP support both 1.5V AGP 2.0 compliant cards (AGP 4x) and newer .8V AGP 3.0 compliant cards (AGP 8x). The keying for AGP 3.0 cards is identical to that of AGP 2.0 cards to retain backward compatibility. A motherboard that supports 8x AGP should work fine with a 1.5V (AGP 4x video card).

This is what concerns you, a motherboard that supports 1.5V (AGP 4x) video cards should work ok with a .8V video card (AGP 8x), however the the video card will only work at the fastest speed your motherboard supports (AGP 4x).

BUMB hey guys one more question, i think i would like to get rid of my normal cele and replace it with a cele D, I know my board supports the cele's with 400fsb and P4 that are 533fsb, just wondering if the cele D would work since its kinda like the P4 533's

Here is the CPU Support List for your motherboard.

http://www.epox.com.tw/eng/download....ZzSUd4cGMzUT1D

This board will support a Northwood P4 533FSB but will NOT support any iteration of Prescott be it P4 or Celeron D. With your overclock you would do well with a Geforce 6600GT AGP card.

You should be able to use any 533MHz FSB Pentium 4 Northwood.

http://www.epox.com.tw/eng/products_content.php?ps=59

Note the Hyperthreading support. There is one (1) Pentium 4 533FSB processor that was Hyperthreading enabled. This was the 3.06GHz Pentium 4 running on the 544MHz FSB and is a decent overclocking processor as well.
