Best Air Cooling Method for Intel 540 - Page 2

The Big Typhoon should fit in your case, yes it is likely to be a tight fit but should fit, at worst barely but it should. In my case the Fan on the Big Typhoon just barely rests on my power supply and has a quarter to half inch between the top of the fan and the side panel on my case.

So, if you do not already have an intake on the side of the case you may need to cut one. I do agree however, it is the BEST air cooling you will get, as well as the quietest.

Sorry fellas but the new kid on the block is the Tuniq Tower 120.

Here to demostrate:

Which I made a thread abou it: here. But I have found the limitation of my CPU being that's the max possible on air. I wish I had my 650 back.

BTW, those idle temps are from a geek mod I did but it does idle at 33c and 45c Load but only during PCMark05, as most of the time for everything else only gets upto 42c-43c max. I think I'll be ordering another Tuniq Tower 120 next week for my 2nd rig which will be replacing the Zalman that's in it right now.

Ahhh thank you for your post. I Shall research this one...good thing amazon.com let me cancel my order for the Big Typhoon. Anyone else tried this thing? Comments on it? Would it fit in my Thermaltake Kandalf Tower? Case has a 120 mm back door fan.

Tuniq Tower 120 Cooler does seem the better of the air coolers. I've read many reviews on it when compared to the other leading solutions and the Tuniq does indeed out perform the competetors...in one case, outperforming the Thermaltake Big Typhoon by as much as 9.5 C. Big change from 53C to 62.5C as recorded in one review. I'm going to keep researching this thing and more than likely go with it. But if there are any more solutions that rank up top, Please post them!

Any of the "super" coolers, BT,tuniq, scythe ninja,cnps9500 will cool great. They all are justa few degrees of each other, and the all will fit in the kandalf with no problems...

The only thing I would worry about is the massive Tuniq ripping my motherboard apart, rofl, since I have a Midtower Case and the mobo is hanging sideways...imagine the stress that thing puts on the motherboard.

Edit: Nevermind the thing (798g) weighs little less than the BT (816g).

Nasgul, I was thinking of definately getting the Tuniq Tower 120. However, i will possibly want to replace the fan with a quieter one if i can find one. Can you tell me if the fan speed control pci slot thing will attach to any fan, or does it just work on the included fan?

It comes with a fan controller which I don't use. It's a little loud @ 2000rps but honestly I listen to music while I'm browsing so I don't get to hear it that much.

Anyhow, you can adjust the speed with the knob. The controller goes in one of the 7 (rear) slots on the back of the PC. It can be controlled by as little as 1000rpm which that would make it very silent, I used to have my Zalman @ 1350rpm and it was ok but the 1K would definitely be very silent but remember that at that speed, the cooler may not be as efficient as 2000rpms so that's something to take in considerations also.

This is a pic of the controller:
