Help with 7900gt mem cooling...

Thread Starter
I've got two 7900gt's overclocked at 700mhz on the GPU core. I have that Zalman VF-700Cu on both cards. What I'm noticing is that the mem wont clock nearly as good as it did with a previous method which was basically as5 paste and heatsinks mounted with pressure against the ram chips.

The zalman product just uses that tape to attach the ram cooling. I want better cooling for the units as far as ram is concerned. The difference is that with my previous method I was getting 900mhz and now only 700mhz. I can't use my old ones cause they don't fit with the zalman. Does anybody have any ideas?

Thanks,

Devin

Well you're now stuck with what you got since you can't remove those zalman ramsinks. I've heard if you try it takes the ram chip off with it.

I think they're still pliable. I just put them on today.

OK, I made a mod to my vid cooler systems and decided to document and post for anyone interested.

I had a plate laser cut out to fit over the 7900gt's ram chips so that I could apply force down against the coolers that would fit over them. I then went out and bought some nice large copper heatsinks for the ram chips. Using some hardware I had I retro fitted the mod onto the two 7900gt's. I guess the benefit of the mod is being able to use AS5 instead of sticky tape mount. Also larger heatsinks that are copper based.

I was able to clock the two cards back to 700mhz GPU and 900mhz DDR (1800mhz effective). You might notice the volt mods I did to the GPU's and, of course, you can't notice the pencil applied volt mod I did to the ddr. Just FYI.

Here's some picks.
