9600XT woes

Ok.. Well I have a 9600XT with the latest cayalyst drivers (just the video drivers btw). Oblivion plays fine, but with CSS on my clans server the game literally freezes for about 30 seconds then lets me play for like 2 seconds then freezes again. Its at stock with a aftermarket HS (cant remember which one), so I dont think it overheats. It idles at 34C. This is REALLY getting annoying though. Should I install a earlier catalyst driver or what? Im lost.. And annoyed..

Weird, I used to have the same kind of problems with Source.. ONLY Source. It would work, then freeze and go like 1 FPS for a while, then work for a second again. I never found the real cause of the problem, but what I did was reinstall Source on a different hard drive and it solved it. Then it started happening again and I just uninstalled windows. Now it happends sometimes but I still don't know what is causing it. I don't really think its the graphics card, must be some problem with the drivers. Sorry dude, if I find out, I'll tell you through Xfire

Ok. Yeah.. This is retarded . Plus it only does it on certain servers.. like my CLAN server conveniently. No love for the 9600XT.. Plus this thing wont OC past 550 mhz on the core.

I dont think its the card. It ran fine when I had it, with the occasional crash in CS:S, but I think that was more related to my old mobo having a bad chipset.

You may want to try the Omegas, also be sure there are no trace of the nVidia drivers left.

Yeah those drivers gave me a huge boost in FPS back when I had a 9550 a couple long and horrible days ago. I love you X850XT *hugs*

Jori you may want to try getting another 512 ram that actually helped me immensely when I only had 512. Smoothed out the gameplay a ton.

Yes, an extra 512 will help a lot. My Windows XP install at start up (16 processes with a bunch of stuff disabled) takes up 160MB of memory. Add a few extra programs and you can be sure that half your memory is gone before you even start the game. That means you will be paging out to the HD, which is slow and laggy.

Two GB will help in CS:s (Higher settings), with 1GB being the minimum for smooth performance, even with 9600XT level graphics settings. You will see the difference.

I played CSS at nearly max on my 5200 just fine. no bloom or HDR though (and not DX9). But Oblivion was laggy. On this 9600XT though Oblivion runs great, but CSS likes to lock up... So I dont think its the RAM thats the issue.. Ill get the Omega's.

Edit: lol well technically there are some Nvidia drivers left.. But thats for my chipset, IDE controller ect ect..
