What happens if you delete the registry?

Would windows be able to "repair it self" using the start up repair utility?

No one has been able to answer my question or even give idea as to what might be wrong with my pc and im getting desperate. I been working on it for over 20 hours..

I don't think it would boot correctly and probably try repairing itself. If you just want to do that why not reformat?

Back up your data.

Format. Fresh install.

Unless you are deleting targeted keys to remove software, you're only going to mess things up. I would not personally waste more than 5 or so hours fixing a problem when a fresh install was an option.

You start mangling the registry and you will render the OS unusable.

Deleting registry can be a bad thing, some times good, but if you want to be on the safe side, back up all your files, and install windows 7 again.

I must admit I have never used the technique of deleting every bit of the registry as a repair procedure, now editing certain parts of the registry is an accepted practice.

YOu wont believe what kina problem im going through right now.

Just because it so happen to be i cant use system restore. My old back up of the installation is corrupted. i lost the key for this installation (which is activated) and any attempt at recovering this key has failed.

So basically the only way to fix this is by fixing it. There is no back button i cant reinstall.

I have no idea but I'm willing to bet my life on it it won't be much good

Backup and fresh install sounds like the best way to me as well. But, before you do the fresh install, you could open regedit, then press ctrl+a, delete and then enter and see what happens

Oh, and maybe put on protective goggles, just in case..

Isn't the startup repair utility located on the install media?

Did you try those first 2? The last one has a huge list of recovery programs for the product keys.
