XFX geforce 6200 256MB DDR2 AGP Overclocking

Hello,

I'm new to the forum, I'm looking to get better performance out of my geforce 6200 256MB AGP. It's running on a P4 2.6, 768MB RAM, 60gb HD. I was wondering what ratio do you use to overclock the GPU and memory? I was going to use Riva tuner, anyone else have this card, can you enable more pipes? I saw you can with some other 6200 cards. 4 pipes are masked. I can't seem to find the core clock speed on the net anywhere for the card. I dont' want to max it out. It has a heat sink not a fan. I don't want to worry about temperature a lot. My basic question is how much of a performance gain will I get let's say clocking it 20mgz or more? I'm playing BF2 Modern Combat, I can only play it on low setting smoothly right now. Will changing the graphics card settings allow me to play it on medium at least?

welcome to the forums
I doubt your going to get much of a performance gain out of that 6200 i would just get a new gpu as games are only going to get more complex and require more gfx power
x850xt
7600gt
6800 ultra or gt
x800xt
are all good cards that will give you A LOT of performance boost
you should be able to play medium to max settings on all of those cards quite smoothly with aa/af

there a reg hack program calle coolbits that you download and extract to your desktop. open it then say when it asks to add to the reg. this just allows you to unlock the function to set the clock speeds. To set the clock speed just go to advanced in display settings then click on the tab for your card and menu will pop out to change display properties but now after you add the coolbits you can select the option to adjust the clock speeds. At first just select "detect optimal freqquencies" and go form there. gl, oh and download the nesest drivers or 81.98

Seriously, I don't want to spend anymore money, I went threw a super crappy experience just getting this card. I researched cards and was trying to find a great card for under $75. First I got a FX5200, That was a ok card, but I figured a 256MB card would be a lot better. So I sold that card and bought what I thought was a kick ass card. A PowerColor Radeon ATI 9250 256MB. That card sucked. It wasn't even as good as my FX5200. The worst part is when I bought the ATI card I bought 2 of them because my friend wanted a new card too. He didn't have a agp slot so I tried selling it brand new in the box on ebay. I couldn't even get close to what i paid for it. THe card wasn't direct 9.0x compatable either. It seemed like more games were written for Nvidia so I decided to sell my ATI and buy one of those cards, I ended up with this 6200, then I get F.E.A.R. and BF2 and realize again that my card is pretty much crap. I'm done spending money. Maybe at christmas time I'll buy something better, but until then, I'm sticking with this thing and hacking it the best I can. So all together I've probably spent $80 to learn what graphics cards are actually good, if I was smart, I would have just went to a video game shop and asked them. I didn't want to spend over a $100 but I would have spent $130 with the knowledge I have now, knowing what I could get.

lol I had similar thing....I bought Sapphire Radeon 9250 256M and then found out that it only has 240MHz core speed......was ok at the time but newer games came out and it became severely lacking....So I sold that with the machine it was in for the price that it cost me to assemble a brand new rig

seeing as though fundage is limited I went for the ASUS n6200 256M which has 350MHz core (incidently only $30 more than the Radeon I had just sold).

Using the coolbits regedit I have clocked my card to 446MHz and the RAM from 400 to 500.

I've run various tests of this config and it is rock stable....and also gave me extra 600 points in 3dMark

you may find that if you have a 128bit card you can unlock more pipelines and thus have the equivalent of a 6600.....unfortunately mine is only 64 bit so I cant

HELP!!! I have a question. I tried setting an overlock to best settings (the comp's recomendation) and when I said ok, it would load... and load... and load... Is this a bad sign? Or if it isn't, why is this happening?
reply asap becasue i need a hint on this one, its not doing what its supposed to be. I OC'd in the nvidia Driver thing, its a 6200 AGP, 256, OC card.
HELP!

Thanks for your info guys, I overclocked my 6200 to 401, I can't remember what the memory is, I think it's 638 or something like that. Anyways, what a huge difference! Seriously, I can now run BF2 with all medium settings. Sometimes I get lag if there is a crazy firefight with 8 soldiers close together, but other then that, it works great. Multiplayer online, I've had no glitches at all. I also noticed a huge improvement with Couter Strike Source, HDR maps are ran without a hitch now. When I ran the FPS it still showed a low FPS rate. I moved all the settings from high to medium, the game runs smooth as silk now. The only changes I've made is the overclocking I just mentioned and I tried the opening of 4 masked pipes, threw a tutorial I found on doomedpc.com. The tutorial is for a 128MB card but the options were the same for the card I had. It's like my card has twice the performance it had before. The games run so much smoother. I've felt the back of the PC and do not feel any unusual heating. Thanks for all the information you provide on this website, couldn't have done it without you.

For the guy with the loading issue, try using rivatuner to do the overclocking. You have to hit the test button before actually doing the overclocking.
