DDR 400 messing up DVD burns... : (

Thread Starter
I recently switched my Ram from 333 @ 166mhz to 400 @200 mhz in the bio. Before by Bios was set to Auto and it kept my DDR400 @ DDR333 166mhz all the time.

However after I manually switched it to the full 200mhz, I've been getting alot of bad DVD burns, mainly CRCs. I've made 3 coasters so far out of 4 burns where as with mem bios @ auto (DDR 333 166mhz) I get none (I switched back and forth to check).

Does anyone know why this happens..? Could it be that I'm getting giving the Ram enough voltage to run or something? Or does my ram just suck...?

Thanks : )

Sadly I think it's your RAM is just not good. Run memtest at the current speeds and see if you pull up errors. Centon just isn't good memory. Sorry.

Well I ran the Test with ~ DDR400 206 mhz for 5 hours and pulled up 0 errors. Although it did seem to perform the test a little slower than when I ran it @ DDR 340 170mhz(only ran test for 1 hour). So I'm guess it's not just messed up ram... : (

I'd test each stick separately...your mother board is supposed to support DDR400 memory...so it isn't that as long as its working properly and you'd know if it wasn't. you could try changing which slots you use the sticks in though

also...what is the burner you are using?

My DVD burner is a Samsung TS-H552B, maybe that 's the problem. But I will try switching slots as well : )

well its not your ram - i can tell you that right now.

Since you have been getting CRC errors you are probably running in PIO mode instead of Ultra DMA like your supposed to be. Open up right click on my computer>properties>hardware>device manager> expand IDE controllers> right click on secondard ide channel>uninstall>action>scan for hardware changes>restart computer.

That should fix your problems. And if you ever get another CRC error you will need to repeat this process. I would suggest getting a CD cleaner at best buy for like 30 bux or whereever you can get them cheaper. Run all your cds/dvds that looks to be really scrached and dirty to avoid crc errors.

I'll go ahead and try that, I have no DVDs at the moment, still waiting on them to arrive from Newegg xD
