See what happens with the cpu/memory usage in the task manager. with it enabled and disabled.
It shouldn't affect it too much.

It shouldn't affect it at all. Mind you, if you are wondering whether it affects gaming performance, then you should probably upgrade your graphivs card, turn down the resolution and disable aero + eye candy in the game.

some games turn it off anyway before they load.



and I cant really tell a difference in FPS with it on our off.

This.

I've found some games that don't disable it crash less often if you disable it yourself too, such as Fallout 3 and Oblivion. I don't even run aero anymore because I got sick of disabling it everytime.

No. Desktop should go into 2D mode while gaming.

If you game only multiple monitors, you will usually see your secondary monitor disable Aero.

Never actually thought about it, but I would have to say it doesnt effect it all that much if at all. As stated already, if it does affect any game, then that game normally disables it anyways.
