Considering overclocking... should i take any precautions?

Thread Starter
I have never overclocked before, so i have a couple questions

Well, i currently have an nVidia geforce 5200 128mb 64 bit card... but ive decided i wanted to get rid of that and go with another budget card. I was going to go with nVidia, but there was nothing under $100 that was 128bit... didnt want a 64bit card again... I found the ATI radeon 9600 xt and the 9600 pro, both 256mb 128bit, for about $75... im going with the pro because the place im getting mine form does not have the xt and i dont want to order it off newegg (need something decent for a lan party)... my friend told me that xt has "built in overclocking"... is there any difference in overclocking with the pro? and should i be concerned about ruining my card? are there any major risks? thanks...

-ps: i know.... im a noob-
