6600gt underperforming? - Page 2

post #11 of 33
Celly can be twice as bad as a p4 same clock speed as I did a test but 10fps...Thats something far from the cpu. What I would do is reinstall. What kinda psu do u have? Also it could be ur mobo. Seems cheap to me.

Edit: how about a 3dmark2001 score. It should at least score 10,000 or so...
1. My AGP settings look like this in the table ..

{GPU, Chipset, OS, Optimal}
AGP version {3, 2, 3, 2}
Max AGP rate {4x, 4x, 4x, 4x}
Max request queue depth {1, 1, 1, 1}
Fast writes {Yes, No, No, No}
Sideband addressing {Yes, Yes, Yes, Yes}

.. I really have no idea if all of those values should be equal or not.

2. Gah .. I benched the card on 3dmark01 .. my score was 5081 .. something wrong?

3. I get the same ingame FPS OC'ing it to 600/1100, as when I underclock it to 300/600 .. :\\?

The card does recommend 350watt psu, but my current is 230 I believe. But is the psu only used to power the fan, and from what I can hear the card's fan is running alright. I probably should try and look for an upgrade in my psu, if it becomes to the state of that being the specific problem.

Yeah dude you can't run a 6600gt with a 230watt PSU! Its not giving enough juice to fully power up the card and thus the card isn't showing its full potential in 3d applications. Your 3DMARK01 score seems WAY low, so there is definitely a big problem here. I do not believe its entirely your CPU bottleneck, but would blame it on the weak PSU. My advice: get a good PSU with at least 400watts and 20amps on 12vrail.

so would runing a 300wat psu with the PCI x16 version of the 6600gt be limiting the proformance of the card a whole lot...

I just read numerous reports of people having extreme problems with an undervoltage power supply and the 6600gt. I'm not sure if I should risk buying a new PSU for 50-100$, or just return the card.

Check out Aspire's Concord line of PSU's. I picked mine up for about $40, and it runs my 6600GT and overclocked system with no problems. (I have the 450 watt version.)

I'm talking Canadian funny money by the way.

http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applicatio...3332&CatId=106

That's what I was thinking about getting. Hopefully it'll still be mediocre when I buy a complete new rig in 2-3 years. 500 watts, and 8 molex cables to win me over. Time to wait another week for delivery.
