How do You Make a Widget opaque?

Ok I'm trying to make my messages widget ttransparent or opaque
But there is not an option to adjust opacity!

Please help me! The bright widget is really irritating on a nice dark screen!

It says it needs a root. My phone is not a rooted one :-(

Hmm, try some alternative calendar programs. Smooth Calendar maybe?
